Assessments give you the opportunity to demonstrate what you have learned so far and identify what knowledge or skills need further development. In this course you will undertake:

  • Skills assessments: perform an activity under observation
  • Knowledge assessments: short answer and multiple choice
  • Case study assessments: respond to a scenario under observation
  • Projects: develop business planning

The Certificate III in Fitness is an entry level qualification that will help you gain employment in the health and fitness industry and work with some level of autonomy in a controlled environment, where risks are managed through existing risk assessments and hazard control processes.

The Certificate IV builds upon the Certificate III qualification, providing a deeper understanding of the theory and practice in providing a safe and high quality personal training service. You will also gain key skills needed to start your own small business.

Depending on your campus location and local partnerships with TAFE NSW, you may have the opportunity to participate in excursions that get behind the scenes in the health and fitness industry.

You will gain a range of hands-on skills related to helping people achieve their health and fitness goals, including:

  • Instructing individual and group personal training programs
  • Providing appropriate advice to clients on healthy eating, incorporating exercise science principles into fitness programming
  • Motivating people to keep reaching for their health and fitness goals

You will also learn how to operate in a contemporary fitness industry environment including how to plan, manage and market a successful small business.

Work with real clients in the TAFE NSW campus gym or an industry workplace and help them meet their personal health and fitness goals. You will also experience how an effective team works together to operate a successful business.

You will have access to industry specific computer rooms, studios, study areas, presentation areas and general student facilities available at most TAFE NSW campuses. You will also spend time in a real or simulated fitness environment where you can practice your skills in settings that reflects a real workplace.
