This course, the Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) is an introductory course that provides insight into the electrotechnology industry and gives you an opportunity to see what it takes to work in the industry, before you commit to a four-year apprenticeship.

The Certificate III level course is the established entry-level course to gain the skills, knowledge and experience to work as a trade qualified electrotechnology electrician. Upon graduation, you will be eligible to apply for your licence to work with low voltage fixed wiring and to supervise others undertaking this work.

The Certificate IV level course teaches you to develop, enter and verify word and analogue control programs for programmable logic controllers, problem solve circuits and plan the electrical installation of integrated systems. The Certificate IV can lead to a career as an Electrician - Special Class.

The Advanced Diploma equips you with the skills to move into leadership or management roles and strategic thinking skills. You will learn how to apply physics to solving electrotechnology engineering problems, provide solutions to basic engineering computational problems and to plan and manage electrical projects.

During work experience you will be introduced to real-world work functions performed by the host employer.

TAFE NSW offers you a variety of study environments to enhance your learning and employability, such as:

  • Theory/practical classrooms with equipment suitable for delivery of electrotechnology content
  • Computer rooms to facilitate the use of electrotechnology software applications, blended delivery and assessment as required
  • Workshops equipped with suitable fixed, portable and hand-held tools and equipment and suitable materials storage facilities
  • Wiring rooms with suitable facilities to allow delivery and assessment of practical wiring competencies
