Overview

This course is for people wanting to increase their experience in working with
animals. It is a general animal care qualification to prepare you for job roles
such as an animal care receptionist/support officer, animal control and
regulation assistant, animal shelter assistant, animal health officer on
indigenous communities or an assistant animal welfare officer.

The course enables you to build on your animal care skills and knowledge and
extend your experience in a variety of workplaces. Whilst undertaking this
course it is highly recommended that you seek to gain a period of work
experience in an animal care workplace. This will allow you to practise what
you have learnt and increase your experience working with others in an animal
care facility.

By completing the course, you will be able to complete animal care hygiene
routines, maintain and monitor animal health and wellbeing, plan for and provide
nutritional requirements for animals and comply with infection control policies
in animal work.

Pathways from this course include higher level qualifications in
animal technology, captive animals, companion animal services and veterinary
nursing.

Entry Requirements

Pathways for candidates considering this qualification include:

- direct entry
- after achieving ACM20110 Certificate II in Animal Studies
- vocational training and/or work experience across a range of work settings.

This qualification is suited to Australian Apprenticeship pathways.

It is recommended that whilst undertaking this qualification, the learner have
access to an animal care workplace.
