Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care

The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is the nationally-regulated entry-level qualification for working in early childhood education and care. It qualifies you to work as an early childhood educator in a centre-based service or family day care. You will be designing and implementing the curriculum that will shape young minds. You will learn how to use a national learning framework, regulations and quality standards to support the education and care of children from birth to school age. You will be able to facilitate play and ensure children's health and safety while supporting their learning and well-being.

Different early childhood education and care qualifications offer a range of employment opportunities.

Preschool Assistant

The Cert III in Early Childhood Education and Care qualifies you as a Preschool Assistant. This role involves planning class activities such as storytelling or art projects according to the lead teacher's requests, instructing and supervising children in developmental and social activities, general interacting with children and assisting with the evaluation of children's developmental and physical wellbeing. You should also be prepared to step into the lead teacher's shoes when required.

Childhood Education Manager

The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care qualifies you as a Childhood Education Manager. This role involves overseeing other childcare workers during their engagement and interactions with children at a childcare centre or preschool. Some Childhood Education Managers work with their own cohort of children while others operate mostly in an administrative and/or supervisory role. A Childhood Education Manager usually works in a centre that operates as a business rather than a private service provided from within a child's home.
