Duration: One semester full time, or two semesters part time.

To be eligible for admission, you must have completed:

  • the NSW HSC or equivalent
  • a Tertiary Preparation Certificate
  • a certificate IV qualification (or higher) in any field.

If you do not meet the above entry requirements, you can apply under special admission provisions (including mature age and disadvantage). You will be required to submit documentation to support your application for special admission.

Discounted Short Course: In 2021 domestic students will pay a tuition fee of $1,720 for the full course. Students must complete the course by December 2021 to be eligible for the discounted short course fee. Domestic students who enrol in the discounted short course may be eligible for a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) which means that you can take out a HECS loan to pay the tuition fee for the discounted short course.

There may be additional costs to purchase resources required for individual subjects. The course coordinator can advise you of any additional course fees.

If you have extensive, current, and relevant workplace experience, or you have recently completed studies in a related field, you may be eligible for exemption from some subjects in the Undergraduate Certificate in Renewable Energy Engineering.

You are required to attend class until you are advised that your application for recognition of prior learning (RPL) has been successful.

Note: Your application for RPL will assess your prior learning against the outcomes of this course. RPL is only granted against full subjects. Partial RPL will not be granted.

Students who complete the Undergraduate Certificate in Renewable Energy Engineering and choose to continue their studies in related courses, may be eligible for exemption from some subjects.

Study pattern

Full time students enrol in four subjects, worth 40 credit points, for one semester. Part time students will typically enrol in two subjects, worth 20 credit points, completing the course over two semesters.

Students will undertake most classes online via ‘virtual classrooms’ and will attend TAFE NSW Ultimo or TAFE NSW Newcastle to complete lab work and site visits. Class work will require online attendance for approximately four hours per subject, per week.

It is recommended that students also undertake at least five hours per week, of additional private study per subject, to maximise their understanding of course content.

Assessment

A range of assessment methods are used across subjects in this course, with most subjects requiring the completion of three to four assessment tasks, and assessments designed to be practical and relevant to current renewable industry contexts.
