Digital Careers Graduate Program – launching ICT careers

TAFE NSW has ten (10) graduate positions open in our 2-year Digital Careers Program. Each position will begin at a TAFE NSW Campus relevant to your chosen skills areas (see table below).

One of the graduate roles is a targeted Aboriginal position and one is a targeted Disability position.

To fully develop your capabilities you will also have the opportunity to rotate to different skill areas for up to 6 months each. This ability to experience different areas will provide exposure to up to three (3) different ICT areas (including service operations) over the course of the 2-year program.

You’ll also be supported by TAFE NSW mentors and coach/es during the program, as well as complete accredited units of study in the field of leadership. Your qualifications may be from a range of academic levels, from diploma to undergraduate degrees, and your work location will be aligned with your chosen field (as shown in the following table):

We are looking for candidates who:

To qualify for the Digital Careers Graduate Program you must:

  • Have completed a Diploma, Advanced Diploma or undergraduate degree in an ICT related field between December 2020 and December 2021.
  • Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident of Australia, New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand passport who has been resident in Australia for at least six months, or hold a current visa that allows you to work full-time in Australia until at least January 2024 at the time of the application.
  • Be able to satisfactorily complete a Working with Children Clearance and Criminal Check.

Selection Process

Step 1 – Submit job application via 'I work for NSW'

Your job application follows the standard application process for NSW Government positions and is entirely online. You will be required to provide important information about your experience, interest and general application criteria, including educational and work-related experience. Your resume must also detail two (2) referees who will be able to provide information about your past work experience, skills, character and general conduct. Step 2 – Pre-assessment (Phase 1)

If you progress to Step 2, you will be notified by our team and invited to the pre-assessment phase. This phase requires you to complete a virtual interview. The expected turnaround time to complete this phase is 3 days.

Step 3 – Pre-assessment (Phase 2)

If you progress to Step 3, you will be notified by our team and invited to participate in the second pre-assessment phase. This phase requires you to complete a competency assessment. The expected turnaround time to complete this phase is 3 days.

Step 4 – Merit based selection

You will be asked to attend a virtual assessment centre (using Microsoft Teams) to:

  • Undertake a pre-assessment task in which you will be required to deliver a presentation to an interview panel*.
  • Participate in a panel interview consisting of a structured set of questions designed to demonstrate your capabilities and experience*.

* Reasonable adjustments will be made if required throughout the selection process and in your role.

Step 5 – Offer of Employment

If you are successful at Step 4, we will contact the referees listed in your application. If your referee reports are satisfactory, we will then make you an offer.

Your offer will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks ie citizenship, visa, qualification, working with children and criminal history – and then your exciting ICT career with TAFE NSW begins!

Frequently Asked Questions

The Digital Careers Program is focused on Information Communication and Technology (ICT) roles within TAFE NSW.It provides an opportunity for entry-level positions for VET and higher education graduates.

The 2-year program provides employment opportunities in both metropolitan and regional areas, in a supportive environment with a personal mentor and coaches.

You will start your career with a competitive remuneration package of $68,849 and total package inclusive of superannuation of $76,753.

For permanent positions you must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. For temporary positions, it is generally acceptable for you to have a current visa that allows you to work in Australia.

Recognition from the Australian Government Department of Education and Training or the appropriate State or Territory Overseas Qualifications Unit is required as evidence of eligibility for the Digital Careers program.

Because we understand that graduates may have limited (if any) work experience, this is not an essential requirement for this program. You will, however, need to demonstrate that you are able to meet all the relevant focus capabilities (see Role Descriptions). You can include any volunteer or project experience you may have gained during your studies (at school, with a VET provider or at a higher education institution), as these can demonstrate your skills and experience. You should also include any part-time or casual work, especially where it relates to ICT or customer service experience.

No. The Digital Careers Program is a full-time 2-year program.

There are ten (10) graduate roles, spread between Blacktown, Dubbo, Hornsby, Loftus, Macquarie Fields, Maitland, Meadowbank, Moss Vale, Penrith, Petersham, Port Macquarie, Randwick, St Leonards, Strathfield, Ultimo, Wagga Wagga, Wollongbar and Wollongong.
