Eligibility

Must meet Smart and Skilled eligibility guidelines which are:

  • live or work in NSW
  • be an Australian Citizen, a permanent resident, a New Zealand citizen, or a humanitarian visa holder
  • have left school

AND meet one of the following criteria:

  • 2021 school leaver, 16 years of age or over
  • Other young people, aged 16 – 24, who are not at school

Must meet Smart and Skilled eligibility guidelines which are:

  • live or work in NSW
  • be an Australian Citizen, Australian permanent resident, Australian humanitarian visa holder, identified temporary visa holder or New Zealand Citizen
  • 15 years or over, no longer at school and living or working in NSW

You can only enrol in up to two Fee-Free~ online courses at a time.

Must meet Smart and Skilled eligibility guidelines which are:

  • live or work in NSW
  • be an Australian Citizen, a permanent resident, a New Zealand citizen, or a humanitarian visa holder
  • have left school

AND meet one of the following criteria:

  • aged from 16 - 24 inclusive, or
  • in receipt of a Commonwealth Government benefit, or
  • an unemployed person, or
  • people expected to become unemployed

Statement of Attainment in Responsible Service of Alcohol:

To be enrolled in this course, you need to be able to provide evidence:

  • that you do NOT hold a current RSA photo Competency Card or,
  • you hold a Card that has been expired for more than 28 days and,
  • you must provide a copy of your current Photo Identification, for example, a Drivers License or Passport

Summer Skills is a fee-free* short course program designed for school leavers aged from 16 – 24 years old, to support skill development over the summer months.

Eligibility Criteria:

Must meet Smart and Skilled eligibility guidelines which are:

  • live or work in NSW
  • be an Australian Citizen, a permanent resident, a New Zealand citizen, or a humanitarian visa holder
  • have left school

AND meet one of the following criteria:

  • 2021 school leaver, 16 years of age or over

In response to the recent Lockdowns, TAFE NSW in conjunction with the NSW Government, is offering a number of fee-free~ short courses to all NSW residents, but places are limited. Courses are a mix of self-paced online or teacher-led virtual classrooms, which can pathway into a variety of full TAFE NSW qualifications.

The JobTrainer program provides young people and job seekers with low cost and fee-free** training courses to help you develop new skills, improve job prospects and kickstart your career. JobTrainer’s fee-free training programs are available in various industries.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible for a fully subsidised place you must meet Smart and Skilled eligibility guidelines which are:

  • live or work in NSW
  • be an Australian Citizen, a permanent resident, a New Zealand citizen, or a humanitarian visa holder
  • have left school

AND meet one of the following criteria:

  • aged from 16 - 24 inclusive, or
  • in receipt of a Commonwealth Government benefit, or
  • an unemployed person, or people expected to become unemployed
  • a Veteran
  • a Veteran’s Recognised Partner (includes Spouse, Recognised Defacto or Ex-Spouse/Recognised Defacto)

In collaboration with the Australian Hotels Association NSW (AHA NSW), and with the generous support and funding from the Diageo Raising the Bar initiative, TAFE NSW is pleased to offer three hospitality licensing programs FEE-FREE+, for those working in the hospitality sector, or seeking employment in this sector.

Responsible Service of Alcohol:

To be enrolled in the Responsible Service of Alcohol course, you need to be able to provide evidence:

  • that you do NOT hold a current RSA photo Competency Card or,

A number of fee-free courses are available under the Smart and Skilled subsidy, designed to help people in NSW get the skills they need to find a job and advance their careers. Fee-free courses are aligned to meet the skills needs of businesses in NSW. 

TAFE NSW also offers affordable - including online short courses - that can be completed in just days or weeks, offering practical skills and experiences across all industries.

Yes, depending on the units completed and the course you want to do. Credit Transfer allows you to receive credit for previously completed unit(s) of competency.

These courses are fee-free for those who meet the Smart and Skilled requirements for enrolment.

TAFE NSW offers a variety of Government subsidised training, including programs like Job Trainer, Mature Age Workers’ Scholarships, Apprenticeships & Traineeships, as well as other Smart and Skilled subsidised training and qualifications.

It is recommended you enrol in and complete one course at a time to maximise learning and ability to complete the course. 

Online Study gives you the same qualification and training outcomes as studying on campus. As there is no weekly timetable for classes, students can enjoy the flexibility of studying when and where it suits them.
