Workforce development

TAFE NSW understands that growing your business involves more than education and training for your staff. Our business consultants can help you design and implement a workforce development strategy that underpins your business plan.

Analysis of training needs

Our business consultants can work with you to conduct a training needs analysis – we look at the current skills base of your workforce, identify the skills required for your business to meet its strategic objectives, and then suggest a step-by-step training strategy to up-skill your staff.

The training needs analysis may include:

  • ensuring the right mix of skills to achieve your business plans and strategies
  • identifying workforce development needs as your business grows
  • identifying training needs for new technology
  • improving how your staff relate to customers
  • updating skills to improve productivity and competitiveness.

The format of the training needs analysis may include interviews, surveys, questionnaires or information reviews.

Courses and customised training

TAFE NSW offers a full range of nationally recognised and accredited courses as well as the ability to provide fully-customised training to suit the particular needs of your industry or business.

Training can be customised by combining units from various courses to create a program that meets your needs. We can also contextualise training programs for specific industries and enterprises.

Each TAFE NSW Institute has industry experts who can develop training programs to:

  • develop specific skills (we can also provide on-the-job assessment of staff skills)
  • improve efficiency and productivity in your workplace
  • meet compliance or legislative requirements
  • provide staff with nationally recognised skills and qualifications.

Recognising skills and experience of staff

Your staff may have a range of highly-developed work skills yet no formal qualifications. TAFE NSW can assess your staff for previous formal and informal learning, work experience and skills gained on the job. If they meet required competency standards they may be eligible for full or partial credit towards a nationally recognised qualification.

If skill gaps are identified, TAFE NSW can work with you to develop a customised training program to address those needs.

  • assess existing skills and knowledge
  • match skills and knowledge to qualifications
  • provide partial or full qualifications based on assessment of existing knowledge and skills
  • identify skills gaps
  • customise training to address skills gaps.
