TAFE NSW Design Centre Enmore Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design students are inviting prospective students to join them in celebrating their win at the prestigious Design and Art Direction (D&AD) Awards during InfoFest.
The TAFE NSW InfoFest will showcase the many career pathways offered by TAFE NSW, with staff on hand to assist with enrolments, career advice and tours of the Design Centre Enmore.
With over 6,000 student entries for the D&AD Awards from around the world, Caitlyn Smith, Ruby Padilla and Luke Wilkinson received the New Blood Pencil award for their campaign “Do The Nasty”.
Referred to as the Oscars of the design world, a thrilled Caitlyn said, “I cried when I opened the email that said we’d won, I couldn’t believe it.” Ruby agreed, “It took me a while to process that we’d actually won, but once I did I was ecstatic.” Luke adding, “Everyone, even people we didn’t know at TAFE NSW Design Centre Enmore, was stopping us to say congratulations. It felt like we were famous, which was crazy.”
Responding to the brief for a campaign that combats the stigma around menstruation in society, “Do The Nasty” aims to normalise the topic.
During the creative process, experts from the graphic design industry attended TAFE NSW Design Centre Enmore to mentor the students. Providing them with guidance and feedback that they would receive working in the industry.
Luke explained, “It was very beneficial having these experts work with us for seven weeks. They would push us to think outside the box and give us honest feedback on the work we were doing, which was great as we learnt so much from it.”
Caitlyn will now fly to London to attend the D&AD International awards ceremony on 11 July, where the team will find out which Pencil they will be awarded.
Members of the Inner West community can explore Graphic Design courses and career options by registering to attend an information session as part of TAFE NSW InfoFest between 24 – 28 June via www.tafensw.edu.au.
