Donna Fisher has been announced as the winner of the Central and North Sydney Training Awards Vocational Student of the Year, at the prestigious Training Services NSW virtual event held last night.
The TAFE Digital student, the owner and operator of SheSaw Travel is one of three TAFE NSW winners of the awards announced via Facebook live.
Lyn Rickard, TAFE Digital General Manager, said the strong showing by TAFE NSW finalists for the six award categories was testament to their commitment to excellence in their chosen field.
Ms Fisher was honoured to receive the prestigious award. “I was facing a crossroads in my career in project management and genuinely believe that travel and tourism, if done responsibly and sustainably, has the potential to bring about real change in the world,” she said.
“While completing my studies, I took the plunge and set up SheSaw, a tour company organising female-led tours and day trips in Australia and overseas. We aim to partner with tourism businesses and social enterprises here and overseas, to support women’s economic empowerment.”
Minister for Tertiary Education, Geoff Lee, said that he was delighted that so many of the award winners were from TAFE NSW and that the strong results at this year’s awards are a clear demonstration of the high-quality education and training provided by Australia’s largest training provider.
“TAFE NSW plays a critical role in shaping the careers of people across a range of important industries that are critical to the economy.
“Ms Fisher is testament to the depth of talent and exciting career opportunities on offer through vocational education and training pathways.
The winners from the Central & North Sydney NSW Training Awards will be interviewed and considered for the state-wide NSW Training Awards, which are planned to be held in Sydney later this year.
The NSW Training Awards celebrate the excellence of apprentices, trainees and students undertaking vocational education and training.
