Before your first day, get to know your TAFE campus. Discover what your campus has to offer and the unique facilities and services you’ll have access to. Avoid first day jitters or getting lost on your way to class, use the campus map to work out how you'll get to there and if parking is available. It’s also a good idea to find the Student Administration Office where you’ll be able to get your TAFECard, travel concession and important information about your enrolment.

Student Readiness - Obtaining your TAFEcard

card icon Your TAFECard

Your TAFECard is important. It’ll be your identification on campus and during assessments. You can use it to borrow from the library, for photocopying and printing and to access travel concessions (if you’re eligible.) It’s valid for the duration of your enrolment and each time you enrol at TAFE NSW your card will be reactivated, so keep it safe and handy. If your card gets lost or damaged, you can pay a $20 replacement fee to get a new one. If you haven’t got a TAFECard, visit your campus Student Administration Office where they’ll snap your picture and issue your card. If you can’t make it to campus send us an enquiry with your identification attached and we’ll get it organised.

Student Readiness - Activating your TAFE NSW account

You’ll use your TAFE NSW account throughout your learning journey. Your account will be your login for the Student Portal and will give you access to the internet and computers on campus.

How to activate your account:

  1. Click the account activation link in the Welcome to TAFE email you received when you enrolled
  2. Enter the security code sent to your email address and create a secure password that meets TAFE NSW requirements
  3. Login to the TAFE NSW Student Portal with your User ID and Password
  4. Click on My Details to provide your personal email address for password recovery.

Already have an account?

If you’ve studied with us before you may still have an active account and will be able to log in using these details. If your account is no longer active you will need to call 131 601 or visit your local Student Administration Office to reactivate your account.

Having trouble?

If you’ve forgotten your password, click Forgot your password on the Student Portal login page to reset your password. If you cannot locate your User ID contact us on 131 601 or visit your local Student Administration Office.

Now you have your TAFE NSW Account, it’s time to get tech-ready! We offer you a range of technology to support you to achieve academic success.

Explore your Student Portal

The Student Portal holds important information about your enrolment, your results as you achieve them, your fees status and much more. Access the student portal using your username and password to log in.

Technology for learning

Microsoft Office 365 (TAFE NSW) – Harness the power of Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OneDrive, Outlook and more, free for the duration of your course.
Microsoft Teams – Collaborate and communicate with your classmates and teachers.
Moodle – Learning Management System (LMS) – This is where you’ll find your learning materials and assessments. You can access your Moodle through your Student Portal.

Adobe Creative Cloud

As a TAFE NSW student you’ll have access to Adobe Creative Cloud while you’re on campus. Downloads for your personal devices are available only for selected courses.

Autodesk software

Free educational access to more than 100 products including AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, Maya and 3ds Max.

Wi-Fi

TAFE NSW provides Wi-Fi across all of our campuses. You just need to be currently enrolled, know your username and password and have a compatible device.

You can activate your account in six steps:

  1. Click on the link for Account activation in the Welcome to TAFE NSW email you received when you enrolled.
  2. Enter your User ID provided in the email e.g. firstname.lastname1
  3. Enter the security code sent to your personal email address.
  4. Establish a password that is secure and meets TAFE password requirements.
  5. Login to TAFE NSW portal with your User ID and password.
  6. Click on My Details to provide your personal email address for password recovery if you forget your password.

Click on 'forgot your password' to reset your password.

You will need to have previously provided your personal email address, which we will use to send you instructions on how to reset your password.

As a reminder, your student user ID is firstname.lastname.

If you complete this password recovery step, and something doesn't work, call 131 601 for help.

You can login into the TAFE NSW Student Portal via https://my.tafensw.edu.au using your TAFE NSW User ID (firstname.lastname e.g. john.doe23) and password.

By signing in to your Office 365 account, you will be able to access the apps you need to get your work done and collaborate with other students and your teachers.

To access your TAFE NSW Office 365 account, you'll need the following:

  1. Access to a modern web browser (for example Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox
  2. Your TAFE username and password (provided to you at enrolment)

How to sign in:

  1. Head to https://office.com
  2. Sign in with your TAFE NSW username@studytafensw.edu.au (e.g. jane.smith3@studytafensw.edu.au) and the password you were issued when you enrolled.

TAFE NSW uses several web conferencing technology platforms to connect students and teachers, including Adobe Connect.

The following guides can walk you through how to access your Adobe Connect Room, including from different types of devices and operating systems.

Your enrolment needs to be finalised prior to you attending classes. Once your enrolment has been finalised, you will be provided with details about when you can start attending classes.

NSW Health requires us to record details of when you are at a TAFE NSW campus. This is so that, if there is a case of COVID-19, they would be able to contact you to tell you what you would need to do.

Students, staff and all visitors to TAFE NSW sites need to check-in using the QR codes displayed on campus.

These guidelines and principles allow for teaching teams to implement a locally developed response, which factors in the size, space, and availability of leaning facilities, student numbers and needs, as well as accounting for other individual factors.

TAFE NSW is encouraging students to stay enrolled and active in their studies where possible. Having an active enrolment may support your eligibility for a Centrelink benefit or allowance. Please check your eligibility with Centrelink.

If you choose to defer your studies due to personal circumstances, you must talk it through with your Head Teacher first. You may be able to defer for up to a maximum 12 months.

If you defer a government subsidised course, such as Smart and Skilled, your Smart & Skilled Student fee or Concession fee will not change if you return to your studies within 12 months.

If you are enrolled in a Government subsidised course, such as Smart and Skilled, you may consider deferring your studies rather than withdrawing.

Deferring your subsidised training mean:

  1. You can defer your study in the course for up to 12 months during the duration of the course.
  2. If you return to your studies within 12 months, your Smart & Skilled student fee or Concession fee will not change.
  3. If you do not return to study within this 12 month period, your student record will be updated to show you as 'withdrawn/discontinuing' your study.

TAFE NSW is encouraging all students to stay enrolled and active in your studies. Having an active enrolment may support your eligibility for a Centrelink benefit or allowance. Please check your eligibility with Centrelink.

If now is not the right time for you to continue your study, you have the option of deferring for up to 12 months.

If you choose to withdraw from your studies, you may be entitled to a partial refund, in accordance with the TAFE NSW Fee and Refund policy.

Course fees at TAFE NSW are not changing as part of our response to COVID-19.

No matter how your training is delivered, on completion of your study, you will graduate with the same highly regarded qualification and the same job-ready skills.

Establishing a payment plan

To help manage the cost of your study, TAFE NSW offers a range of pay-as-you-go options, such as payment by instalments. This means you make small regular payments. These options include:

  • Instalment plans
  • Split payments

To apply for a payment plan, please contact us on 131 601. Any payment plan, including the amount and number of instalments depends on the course you are studying and your individual circumstances.

Struggling to pay your fees

If you have outstanding fees, please contact us on 131 601 as soon as possible to discuss alternate arrangements.

Deferring your studies

If you choose to defer your studies due to personal circumstances, you should talk it through with your teachers first. You may be able to defer for up to a maximum 12 months.

Unfortunately, a deferral cannot extend beyond 12 months.

You will need to withdraw from your current enrollment. You may choose to enrol in the course again, when you are ready to commence your studies.

TAFE NSW libraries are open for on-campus services to current students only.

This is in addition to the already available online support including LibChat, online, email and phone assistance, will continue to be offered to support online delivery.

TAFE NSW has state-wide social distancing guidelines, and risk management practices in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all those who deliver and use our services.

These guidelines allow library teams to provide a locally appropriate range of services based on the size, space and availability of facilities, student numbers and their primary needs.

To ensure the health and safety of all:

 

  • Access to physical collections at all locations will be via ‘click and collect’ services.
  • The physical capacity of each space is displayed at entrances. Limits are monitored and enforced.
  • PPE and sanitising products are available. We ask that all customers work with us for the ongoing hygienic use of libraries, facilities and equipment.
  • Libraries may only be used for course-related work.

TAFE NSW offers free counselling and career services for all students. TAFE NSW counsellors are operating (in most cases) according to their usual consultation times, Monday to Friday during business hours.

You can book a one on one personal phone or video session with a TAFE NSW counsellor. To book a session:

  2. Pick your preferred TAFE NSW location.
  3. Click the ‘More about this campus’ button.

Teachers have been provided with specific guidance on ways to implement appropriate social distancing within the teaching environment, which are slightly different to the general measures in place in the broader community.

Where your study program requires face-to-face interaction or practical environments such as labs, kitchens or workshops, we are taking action by:

  • Encouraging regular hand hygiene of participants
  • Regularly wiping frequently used surfaces
  • Avoiding congestion in common areas by staggering class break times.

The QR Code will take you to an online form, where you can enter your details.

If you use an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy, open the camera app and position it over the QR Code.

If you use another device, you may need to download a QR scanner such as Google Lens. Open the QR scanner and position it over the QR Code.

Once you have scanned the QR Code, you will receive a notification to open the check-in form, where you add your details.

If you are required to study on campus for any reason, TAFE NSW will advise you via your TAFE NSW student email address if there are any changes to the hours of operation or if a campus will be closed. You may also receive notifications by SMS.

If a campus or facility is closed, your study program will continue, unless advised otherwise.

If there is a confirmed case of COVID-19, students who may have had direct contact with the individual will be notified. TAFE NSW will consult with NSW Health about possible closure of TAFE NSW facilities and advice to students.

NSW Health will trace any close contacts of the infected person. This may require temporarily ceasing physical operations while the contact tracing is done and cleaning is undertaken.

NSW Health will advise students and staff who have been identified as a close contact and provide appropriate advice, which may include the need for them to self-isolate for the appropriate period of time.
