The Star Entertainment Group identified skills shortages in their industry and saw an opportunity to retrain their staff. But they needed a customised training program that filled their specific needs, as well as one that was flexible enough to fit in with business needs.
The Challenge
- Create a specialised training program that addressed a serious industry skills shortage
- Give students the skills and confidence to progress their career, while also creating pathways into senior positions in an industry with a traditionally high staff turnover
- Tailor training so that it could lead to a nationally recognised qualification
TAFE Enterprise delivered
Because TAFE Enterprise understands business and, more importantly, listened to The Star’s needs, we:
- Launched the innovative Sydney School of Hospitality Excellence - International Hospitality Service Program
- Addressed skill shortages in silver-service, food and beverage matching, and wine, beer and spirit selection
- Delivered a program in learning blocks that suited different workplace’s operational needs
- Delivered Masterclasses taught by relevant industry experts
- Provided industry contacts, experience, knowledge and expertise that gave students the skills and confidence needed to succeed in the industry
Results
- Participants graduated from the course with 6-star skills and experience, ready to start work in the industry
- Students were offered employment in prestigious hotel organisations following completion of the program
- Continuation of the program at Certificate IV level in 2018 to increase employability skills
