JobTrainer is the latest employment support initiative in the ‘Job’ series after JobSeeker, JobKeeper and JobMaker. It’s a government commitment offering free and low-cost courses, both short and long, to those left unemployed by the downturn in the economy. It also provides wage subsidies for apprentices. It’s projected to create up to 340,700 new positions to support school-leavers and job seekers to gain the skills they need to get a job.
JobTrainer will support free training courses from September 2020, with funding prioritising free training in areas the National Skills Commission has identified to as likely to see job growth, such as health care and social assistance, transport, warehousing, manufacturing, retail and wholesale trade.

The details are still being ironed out, but it’s likely the program will apply specifically to school-leavers looking to get their first jobs, as well as those on JobSeeker as they deal with an uncertain job market on the other side of the coronavirus pandemic.
The wage subsidies portion of the package will expand on the previous subsidy announcement to include medium businesses with fewer than 200 employees, and which employed (an) apprentice/s as of 1 July 2020.
