Course Description

This course is for people who want be competent in the installation and
management of small scale networks, either as an independent network
support technician or as part of a team.

Articulation

When you finish this course, you may be eligible for advanced standing in
ICA50411 Diploma of Information Technology Networking, or a range of other
Diploma qualifications.
When you finish this course, you may be eligible to apply for entry into a TAFE
NSW Higher Education course.

Pathways into the qualification

Preferred pathways for candidates considering this qualification include:
-    after achieving ICA30111 Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and
Technology, or other relevant qualifications or units equivalent to the
core of ICA30111
-    with demonstrated vocational experience in a range of work environments in a
network support role, including administrator, manager, operations analyst,
operations engineer/technician, or technician.

What you must do to complete the course

The course structure below shows what you must do to complete this course.
units/modules are arranged in groups and sometimes also in subgroups.
 
You must complete each group as specified as well as following the course
completion instructions.   If a course contains optional groups there will
statement at the top of the course indicating how many you must do.  At the
top of any group containing optional subgroups there will be a statement
saying how many you must do.
 
 
This course reflects the packaging requirements for ICA40411 Certificate
IV in Information Technology Networking (Release 2) within the Information
Communication Technology Training Package (ICA11  R2.0). The rules from
ICA11 R2.0 are as follows:
 
Packaging Rules
 
Total number of units = 17
8 core units plus
9 elective units, of which:
 
- 6 units must be from the elective units listed below
- the remaining units may be from the elective units below or from
elsewhere in ICA11 or any other Training Package or accredited course at
Certificate III, IV or Diploma level.
 
The elective units chosen must be relevant to the work outcome and meet
local industry needs.
 
 
To satisfy the Training Package requirements, this TAFE NSW course has been
structured as follows:
 
A total of 17 units must be completed - 8 compulsory plus 9 electives
 
Group 1 - Core Units

All 8 core units must be completed
 
Group 2 - Elective Units listed in ICA40411

At least 6 and no more than 9 units must be completed. The remaining 3
units may be selected from Groups 2 and/or 3
 
Group 3 - Units from from ICA11, any Training Packages or accredited
course at Certificate III, Certificate IV or Diploma level

NOTES FOR STUDENTS

1. LEARNER SUPPORT
Students who require support to meet their learning goals may co-enrol in

2. SELECTION OF ELECTIVES
Talk to your teacher and/or workplace trainer to ensure that your
combination of electives provides you with a suitable vocational outcome.
 
3. RECOGNITION
If you have completed other relevant training you may be eligible to have
units of competency from previous training counted towards completion for
this course. Talk to your teacher or workplace trainer if you think you
may be eligible for recognition for units previously completed.
