Course overview

Course Description

This qualification is for learners who wish to use a range of skills and
techniques to produce art and craft works. You will have the ability to
select, adapt and transfer skills to different situations. Job outcomes
are limited at this level.
 
You may wish to study a pathway and application within this course that
provides a 'specialist' visual arts/fine arts outcome dependant on the
electives studied. However, not all TAFE NSW colleges offer all electives.
It is important that you contact Colleges in advance for information on
the pathways and outcomes available.

Career Opportunities

Artist, arts related work or self-employment.

Articulation

This qualification prepares people for the higher-level learning that supports
professional art practice. After achieving this qualification, people could
progress to a wide range of other qualifications in visual arts and craft, in
particular the 10410 Certificate IV in Visual Arts (CUV40111), or the creative
industries more broadly.

 There are no entry requirements for this qualification.
Pathways into the qualification
People may enter this qualification with limited or no vocational experience and
without a lower level qualification.

This course reflects the packaging requirements for CUV30111 Certificate
III In Visual Arts within the Visual Arts Craft and Design Training Package
(CUV11 version 1). The rules from CUV11 v.1 are as follows:
 
Total number of units = 12
- 4 core units plus
- 8 elective units
 
The elective units consist of:
 
* 4 from Group A
* of the remaining 4 units:
- up to 4 may be from Group A and/or Group B
- up to 4 may be from Certificate II or above in any currently endorsed
Training Package
- up to 2 may be from an accredited course at Certificate II, III or IV.
 
The elective units chosen must be relevant to the work outcome and meet
local industry needs.
 
To satisfy the Training Package requirements, this TAFE NSW course has been
structured as follows:
 
A total of 12 units must be completed - 4 compulsory plus 8 electives

1. LEARNER SUPPORT

2. SELECTION OF ELECTIVES
Talk to your teacher and/or workplace trainer to ensure that your
combination of electives provides you with a suitable vocational outcome.
 
3. RECOGNITION
If you have completed other relevant training you may be eligible to have
units of competency from previous training counted towards completion for
this course. Talk to your teacher or workplace trainer if you think you
may be eligible for recognition for units previously completed.
 
4. PREREQUISITE UNITS
Some units in this course have prerequisites that must be completed in a
lower level qualification or selected as part of this course. Refer to the
Package or consult your teacher for information about prerequisites to
elective units.

Requirements to receive the qualification

To achieve CUV30111 Certificate III in Visual Arts (TAFE NSW course 30111),
learners are required to complete 12 units of competency, comprising:
 
-   All 4 core units from Group 1
-   At least 4 and no more than 8 elective units from Group 2
-   Up to 4 elective units from Group 3
-   Up to 4 elective units from Group 4.
