Course overview

Course Description

This qualification is designed to reflect the job roles of contract
bookkeepers and employees performing bookkeeping tasks for organisations
in a range of industries.
 
A Business Activity Statement (BAS) service is a tax agent service that
includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- preparing or lodging an approved form about a taxpayer's liabilities,
  obligations or entitlements under a BAS provision;
- giving a taxpayer advice about a BAS provision that the taxpayer can
  reasonably be expected to rely upon to satisfy their taxation
  obligations; or
- dealing with the Commissioner on behalf of a taxpayer in relation to
  a BAS provision.
 
Persons providing a BAS service must be registered by the Tax
Practitioner's Board and this qualification is currently cited as meeting
the educational requirements for registration. Other conditions apply
including a designated period of experience. Persons seeking BAS agent
registration should check current registration requirements with the Board
as this is regularly reviewed.

Pathways from the qualification
-------------------------------
The primary pathway from this qualification is employment in a bookkeeping job
role with functions that include:
- establishing and maintaining manual and computerised accounting systems
- completing Business Activity Statements (BAS) and other office financial
statements
- developing bookkeeping management systems for organisations
- general administration.
A further learning pathway utilising qualifications such as Diploma of
Accounting would support career progression.
When you finish this course, you may be eligible to apply for entry into a TAFE
NSW Higher Education course.

The course structure below shows what you must do to complete this course.
units/modules are arranged in groups and sometimes also in subgroups.
 
You must complete each group as specified as well as following the course
completion instructions.   If a course contains optional groups there will
statement at the top of the course indicating how many you must do.  At the
top of any group containing optional subgroups there will be a statement
saying how many you must do.
 
 
This course reflects the packaging requirements for FNS40211 Certificate
IV in Bookkeeping (Release 3), within the FNS10 Financial Services
Training Package (Release 5.0).
 
The qualification packaging rules state:
 
13 units must be achieved:
- 9 core units
plus
- 4 elective units
 
The 4 elective units may be selected from the elective units listed below,
endorsed Training Package or accredited course.
 
Elective units may be selected from a Certificate IV or Diploma
qualification; 2 elective units may be selected from a Certificate III
qualification.  

Elective units must be relevant to the work outcome, local industry
requirements and the qualification level.
 
NOTE: The workplace context for this qualification should guide the
selection of elective units. Examples of appropriate units in the elective
may suit particular work contexts, are listed in the packaging rules for
this qualification.
 
 
To satisfy the Training Package requirements, this TAFE NSW course has been
structured as follows:
 
13 units must be completed - 9 core plus 4 electives
 
Group 1 - Core Units

All 9 core units must be completed.
 
Group 2 - Elective Units
------------------------
All 4 elective units must be selected from this group. This group contains
three subgroups:
 
- Subgroup 1: Units listed in FNS40211
Up to 4 units may be selected
 
- Subgroup 2: Units from other CIV or Dip accredited courses or TP quals
Up to 4 units may be selected
 
- Subgroup 3: Units from other CIII accredited courses or TP quals
A maximum of 2 units may be selected
 
Group 997 - Enrichment Group

Units in this group do not count towards the number of units required for
course completion.
 
NOTES FOR STUDENTS
------------------
 
1. LEARNER SUPPORT
Students who require support to meet their learning goals may co-enrol in
the Learner Support course (TAFE Course Number 9999). Talk to your teacher
think you may require learner support.
 
2. SELECTION OF ELECTIVES
Talk to your teacher and/or workplace trainer to ensure that your
combination of electives provides you with a suitable vocational outcome.
 
3. RECOGNITION
If you have completed other relevant training you may be eligible to have
units of competency from previous training counted towards completion for
this course. Talk to your teacher or workplace trainer if you think you
may be eligible for recognition for units previously completed.
 
4. PREREQUISITE UNITS
Some units in this course may have prerequisites that must be completed in
lower level qualification or selected as part of this course. Refer to the
Training Package or consult your teacher for information about
prerequisites to elective units.
