Course Description

This qualification provides a pathway to a career in graphic design. It is
for people who want to develop fundamental skills in graphic design to
prepare for further study at a higher level.

Career Opportunities

There are limited job outcomes at this level, however there may be some
employment opportunities working in junior roles in graphic design and digital
media sectors.

Articulation

This qualification prepares people for graphic design learning at higher levels,
particularly via CUV40311 Certificate IV in Design (Graphic Design), CUV50311
Diploma of Graphic Design, and CUV60411 Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design.

 There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

This course reflects the packaging requirements for CUV30311 Certificate
III in Design Fundamentals (Graphic Design) within the the Visual Arts,
Craft and Design Training Package (CUV11 Version 1.0). The rules from
CUV11 V1.0 are as follows:
 
Total number of units = 12
 
- 7 core units plus
- 5 elective units
 
The elective units consist of:
* 2 from the list of electives as outlined in the course structure
 
Of the remaining 3 units:
* up to 3 may be from the list of elective units below
* up to 3 may be from Certificate III in any currently endorsed Training
Package
* 1 may be from a Certificate II or IV in any currently endorsed Training
Package
* 1 may be from an accredited course at Certificate II or above.
 
To achieve a graphic design outcome, you will study a pathway of
units/modules with a graphic design focus, such as those in Group 2,
Sub-group 7 of the course structure.
 
The elective units chosen must be relevant to the work outcome and meet
local industry needs.
 
 
To satisfy the Training Package requirements, this TAFE NSW course has been
structured as follows:
 
A total of 12 units must be completed - 7 compulsory plus  5 electives

this course. Talk to your teacher or workplace trainer if you think you
may be eligible for recognition for units previously completed.

Units in this course may have prerequisites that must be completed in a
lower level qualification or selected as part of this course. Refer to the
Package or consult your teacher for information about prerequisites to

Requirements to receive the qualification

To achieve CUV30311 Certificate III in Design Fundamentals (Graphic Design)
(TAFE NSW course 11408), learners are required to complete 12 units of
competency, comprising:
 
-   All 7 core units from Group 1
-   At least 2 and no more than 5 elective units from Group 2
-   No more than 3 units from Group 3
-   No more than 1 units from Group 4.
 
To achieve a graphic design outcome, you will study a pathway of units/modules
with a graphic design focus, such as those in Group 2, Sub-group 7 of the course
structure.
