Course overview

Course Description

This course is for people in the injection moulding industry who want to
gain an understanding about the operations and practices in their
workplace, for their industry sector. The course combines on-the-job
training and experience with off-the-job training.
 
You will learn how to solve technical problems in plastics processing. You
will also learn to apply quality practices and workplace communication.

When you finish this course you will be eligible to enrol in the Certificate IV
in Polymer Technology (Injection Moulding).

Entry Requirements

 There are no formal entry requirements for this course.
This qualification may be accessed by direct entry, or entry may also be gained
through PMB20107 Certificate II in Polymer Processing.

 

Early Exit Points

 Depending on your choice of electives you may be eligible to receive:
MSA10207 Certificate I in Process Manufacturing and or
PMB20107 Certificate II in Polymer processing.

You must complete each group as specified as well as following the course
completion instructions.   If a course contains optional groups there will
statement at the top of the course indicating how many you must do.  At the
top of any group containing optional subgroups there will be a statement
saying how many you must do.
 
 
This course reflects the packaging requirements for PMB30107 Certificate
III in Polymer Processing within the PMB07 Plastics, Rubber and
Cablemaking Training Package (Version 1.1). The rules from PMB07 are as
follows:  

Packaging Rules
 
To be awarded the Certificate III in Polymer Processing competency must be
achieved in twenty one (21) units of competency.
 
-  four (4) core units of competency
-  seventeen (17) elective units of competency, as specified below.
 
Note : Where prerequisite units apply, these must be considered in the
total number of units chosen.
 
Elective units of competency
Select seventeen (17) units of competency, as specified below:
a minimum of four (4) units from Group A
a minimum of one (1) unit from Group B
the remainder of units may be chosen from Groups A, B and C, to bring the
total number of electives to seventeen (17) .
 
Note : Up to six (6) of the elective units of competency can be chosen from
other qualifications in this Training Package, other endorsed Training
Packages and accredited courses, as specified in Groups B and C.
 
 
Course 17302 Certificate III in Polymer Processing (Injection Moulding) is
specialist course in injection moulding, it gives maximum flexibility in
course structure to allow operators to tailor their training needs to meet
industry skill set.
 
Twenty one (21) units of competency are required to be awarded the CIII
The six (6) core units must be completed together with fifteen (15)
elective units which can be selected from groups 2,3,4 & 5.
 
Group 1. Mandatory Core. Complete all SIX (6) units
 
Group 2. Technical units. At least three (3) units must be chosen from the
following subgroups
 
Subgroup 1. Group A CIII Technical units listed in PMB30107. You
must do at least one (1) unit
 
Subgroup 2. Group A units from PMB40107 - CIV Technical units.
Do no more than 2 units
(see rules in the note below)
 
Subgroup 3. Group B units from PMB40107 - CIV other units
(see rules in the note below)
 
NOTE: RULES FOR THE USE OF CIV units from PMB40107:
-   a maximum of two units can be used
-   at least one (1) must be a Group A CIV technical unit
-   a maximum of one (1) Group B CIV other unit can be used.
-   some CIV units have prerequisites, see delivery 6.1 for
details.
 
Group 3. Group B Certificate III Elective Units. At least
one (1) unit must be completed.
Subgroup 1. Group B CIII Support Units listed in PMB30107.
 
Subgroup 2. CIII units from PMB07, other Training Packages or
accredited courses. No more than two (2) units may
be completed.
 
Group 4. Additional Electives (Group C) listed for PMB30107. The balance of
required electives may be selected from this group.
 
Group 5. Elective units from PMB07, other Training Packages or accredited
courses at CII and CIII level. No more than four (4) may be
completed
 
 
NOTES FOR STUDENTS

1. LEARNER SUPPORT

the Learner Support course (TAFE Course Number 9999). Talk to your teacher
think you may require learner support.
 
2. SELECTION OF ELECTIVES
Talk to your teacher and/or workplace trainer to ensure that your
combination of electives provides you with a suitable vocational outcome.
 
3. RECOGNITION
If you have completed other relevant training you may be eligible to have
units of competency from previous training counted towards completion for
this course. Talk to your teacher or workplace trainer if you think you
may be eligible for recognition for units previously completed.
 
4. PRE-REQUISITES
Any pre-requisite units must be completed. Learners should seek advice
from the Head Teacher regarding pre-requisite units. Further information on
pre-requisite units is provided in section 6.1 Delivery modes.
