Course Description

This course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to work in a
community pharmacy. Likely functions within the community pharmacy
industry for those who achieve this level of competency include
maintaining store safety and security, managing sales and customer
service, leading and managing staff and managing merchandise and store
presentation.

You can get advanced standing in this course if you have completed SIR20107
Certificate II in Community Pharmacy (17490) and/or SIR30107 Certificate III in
Community Pharmacy (17491).
When you finish this course you will be eligible to do a number of TAFE NSW
courses, such as the Certificate IV in Retail Management and the Diploma of
Retail Management.

You must complete each group as specified as well as following the course
completion instructions.   If a course contains optional groups there will
statement at the top of the course indicating how many you must do.  At the
top of any group containing optional subgroups there will be a statement
saying how many you must do.
 
 
This course has been designed to reflect the packaging requirements for
SIR40107 Certificate IV in Community Pharmacy within the Retail Services
Training Package Version 1.3 (SIR07 v1.3) . The rules from the SIR07 v1.3
Training Package are as follows:
 
To achieve a Certificate IV in Community Pharmacy, 33 units must be
completed: - all 22 core units
- 11 elective units. Elective units may be selected as follows.
* A maximum of 6 units may be selected from the Elective Units in Group A.
* A minimum of 5 and a maximum of 11 elective units may be selected from
the Elective Units in Group B.
* A maximum of 2 elective units may be selected from Group C.
* A maximum of 5 elective units may be selected from elsewhere in the
Retail Services Training Package or from any other endorsed Training
Package or accredited course. These must be units which are packaged
within a Certificate III or IV qualification in the parent Training
Package. Training Packages that overlap with Community Pharmacy activities
Health, Business Services and Beauty.
 
Elective units selected must be additional to those already counted towards
a lower level qualification within this Training Package.
 
In all cases selection of electives must be guided by the job outcome,
local industry requirements and the characteristics of this qualification
(as per the AQF descriptors).
 
Please note:
 
All of the following units have the core unit SIRPPKS001A as a prerequisite
unit:
- SIRPDIS001A, SIRPDIS003A, SIRPDIS004A, SIRPDIS005A, SIRPDIS006A
- all SIRPPKS* units (except SIRPPKS001A itself).
 
SIRPDIS004A Assist in dispensary stock control and SIRPDIS005A Assist in
preparing dose administration containers also have as a further
prerequisite unit:
SIRPDIS003A Assist in dispensary operations.
 
To satisfy the Training Package requirements, this TAFE NSW course has been
structured as follows:
 
A total of thirty-three (33) units must be completed
 
Group 1 - Core Units

All twenty-two (22) core units must be completed
 
Group 2 - Elective Units
------------------------
This group consists of four subgroups.
Subgroup 1: Elective units: Group A
A maximum of six (6) units may be selected from this subgroup.
Subgroup 2: Elective units: Group B
A minimum of five (5) and a maximum of eleven (11) elective units
must be selected from this subgroup.
Subgroup 3: Elective units: Group C
A maximum of two (2) elective units may be selected from this
subgroup
Subgroup 4: Elective units from any other endorsed Training Package or
accredited courses packaged within a Certificate III or IV
qualification in the parent Training Package.
A maximum of five (5) elective units may be selected from this
subgroup
 
 
NOTES FOR STUDENTS

1. LEARNER SUPPORT
Students who require support to meet their learning goals may co-enrol in
the Learner Support course (TAFE Course Number 9999). Talk to your teacher
think you may require learner support.
 
2. SELECTION OF ELECTIVES
Talk to your teacher and/or workplace trainer to ensure that your
combination of electives provides you with a suitable vocational outcome.
 
3. RECOGNITION
If you have completed other relevant training you may be eligible to have
units of competency from previous training counted towards completion for
this course. Talk to your teacher or workplace trainer if you think you
may be eligible for recognition for units previously completed.
 
4. PREREQUISITE UNITS
Some units in this course may have prerequisites that must be completed in
a lower level qualification or selected as part of this course. Refer to
the Training Package or consult your teacher for information about
prerequisites to elective units.
