Course overview

Course Description

This course is for people who are working in a support services capacity in
government schools, but who are not teacher aides. You may be working in
the areas of administration, library support or other streams specific to
your workplace. You will develop specialist skills as well as generalist
skills applicable to a range of public sector environments.
 
If you work in a public service organisation and want to do this course you
should discuss it with your workplace trainer/supervisor. If you do not
work in a public service organisation but want to do this course, speak to
a TAFE NSW counsellor at the campus running this course for more
information.  

Career Opportunities

Employment in the government schools sector in a support capacity. Skills and
knowledge acquired in this course can be also be transferred to the local
government or private sector context.
 

Articulation

When you finish this course you can apply to do other vocational courses. You
may be eligible for credit for relevant units of competency you have completed
as part of this course.

This course has been designed to reflect the packaging requirements of the
Certificate IV in Government (School Support Services) PSP41904 under the
Public Sector Training Package Version 4.2 (PSP04 v4.2). The rules from
PSP04 Version 4.2 are as follows:
 
This qualification requires 15 units of competency consisting of:
* 6 core units
* 9 elective units
Choose 9 elective units:
- 1 unit from Group A;
- 6 units from groups B to G, either across groups or from a single group;
- 2 units from elsewhere within this Training Package, or any endorsed
Training Package or Accredited Course.
 
Units selected should not duplicate content already covered by other units
this qualification.
 
All elective units must be selected from an equivalent qualification level
higher, unless otherwise stated.
 
** For this qualification, a maximum of 1 unit from Certificate III level
may be used.
 
To satisfy Training Package requirements, this TAFE NSW course has been
structured as follows:
 
A total of 15 units must be completed - 6 core plus 9 electives
 
Group 1 - Core Units

Group 2 - Group A Choice of Elective Unit

This group consists of six (6) subgroups.  You must complete six (6) units
subgroups B to G, either across subgroups or from a single subgroup.

Subgroup 3: Group D Elective Units (Human Resources)
Subgroup 4: Group E Elective Units (Library Support)
Subgroup 5: Group F Elective Units (Scientific Assistance)

Group 3 - Units from elsewhere within this Training Package, or any
endorsed Training Package or Accredited Course.

NOTES FOR STUDENTS

1. LEARNER SUPPORT
Students who require support to meet their learning goals may co-enrol in
the Learner Support course (TAFE Course Number 9999). Talk to your teacher
think you may require learner support.
 
2. SELECTION OF ELECTIVES
Talk to your teacher and/or workplace trainer to ensure that your
combination of electives provides you with a suitable vocational outcome.
 
3. RECOGNITION
If you have completed other relevant training you may be eligible to have
units of competency from previous training counted towards completion for
this course. Talk to your teacher or workplace trainer if you think you
may be eligible for recognition for units previously completed.
 
4. PREREQUISITE UNITS
Some units in this course may have prerequisites that must be completed in
lower level qualification or selected as part of this course. Refer to the
Training Package or consult your teacher for information about
prerequisites to elective units.

NSW course 17645), learners are required to complete 15 units of competency,
