Course overview

Course Description

This course is for people aspiring to work in retail, make-up and skincare
industry. You will learn how to apply make-up for a range of purposes and
in a range of situations - for instance, for day or bridal wear, for
remedial camouflage or for photographic work. You will also learn about
the fundamentals of retail operations as they apply to selling skin care
products and cosmetics. You will also learn how to demonstrate the use of
a range of retail cosmetic products.
 
You must complete all required units to receive the qualification. You may
be able to do single units to suit your particular needs.
 
You must complete all core units and two elective units to receive the
qualification. You should contact the campus before enrolling in this
course. People considering enrolment in beauty courses need to be aware
that skills development will require students to practise on each other.
This will necessarily involve touch but will always be practised and
applied in accordance with industry codes of practice and ethics. Details
will be provided to intending students during pre-enrolment information
sessions or to enrolled students by the teacher.
 
When you finish this course you can get advanced standing in other Beauty
Training Package qualifications, such as Certificate II in Nail Technology,
Certificate III in Beauty Services, Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy, as
well as relevant Retail Training Package qualifications.

You must complete each group as specified as well as following the course
completion instructions.   If a course contains optional groups there will
statement at the top of the course indicating how many you must do.  At the
top of any group containing optional subgroups there will be a statement
saying how many you must do.
 
 
This course reflects the packaging requirements for SIB20110 Certificate
II in Retail Make-up and Skin Care within the Beauty Therapy Training
Package (SIB10). The rules from the SIB10 Training Package are as follows:
 
Qualification Rules
===================
To achieve a Certificate II in Retail Make-up and Skin Care, 15 units must
completed:
 
- all 10 core units
- 5 elective units;
 
- a minimum of 3 elective units must be selected from the elective units
listed below
- the remaining unis may be selected from this or another endorsed Training
Package or accredited course; these must be units which are first packaged
at AQF 1, 2 or 3.
 
In all cases, selection of electives must be guided by the job outcome
sought, local industry requirements and the characteristics of this
qualification (as per the AQF descriptors).
 
To satisfy the Training Package requirements, this TAFE NSW course has been
structured as follows:

units of competency from previous training counted towards completion for
this course. Talk to your teacher or workplace trainer if you think you
may be eligible for recognition for units previously completed.

a lower level qualification or selected as part of this course. Refer to

Requirements to receive the qualification

To achieve qualification SIB20110 Certificate II in Retail Make-up and Skin Care
(TAFE NSW course number 18930), learners are required to complete 15 units of
competency, comprising:
 
-  10 compulsory units from group 1
-  5 elective units from group 2 and 3, including at least 3 electives
from group 2.
