Course overview

Course Description

This course is for experienced fire operators with responsibility for
project design and supervision.
 
Depending upon electives selected learners will develop skills to:
- conduct on-site supervision of building and construction projects;
- arrange resources and prepare for the building or construction project;
- arrange building applications and approvals;
- apply codes and standards to building trade and services contracting;
- commission domestic and residential fire suppression sprinkler systems;
- commission and maintain special hazard fire suppression systems;
- commission fire system pump sets;
- design residential and domestic fire sprinkler systems;
- commission fire alarm and detection systems;
- commission firefighting appliances.

This course has been designed to reflect the packaging requirements for
CPC40909: Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services specialising in the Fire
Services Stream, within the Construction, Plumbing and Services Integrated
Framework Training Package (CPC08). The rules from CPC08 Training Package
are as follows:
 
Fire services stream
--------------------
15 units of competency are required for award of this qualification:
- 8 compulsory units
- 7 elective units
 
The units must be completed as follows:
- all four common compulsory units
- all four compulsory units shared between air conditioning and mechanical
services stream and fire services
- seven elective units, ensuring that any licensing requirements are
addressed. Of these seven electives:
- at least four units must be selected from the pool of elective units in
the fire services stream
- up to two units may be selected from a Certificate IV qualification in
another endorsed Training Package or from the compulsory or elective units
of another stream within the Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services,
ensuring both the integrity of the AQF alignment and the industry context
of the qualification is maintained
- one unit may be selected from Certificate III or Diploma Plumbing and
Services qualifications
- no more than three units may be selected from the common pool of elective
units.
 
Completion of the Work Health and Safety General Construction Induction
training program is required to enter and undertake the carrying out of
construction work on a site. The achievement of unit CPCCOHS1001A Work
safely in the construction industry based on the National Code of Practice
Training for Construction Work (SAC 2006) covers this requirement.
 
 
This TAFE NSW course has been structured to satisfy the Training Package
requirements for the Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services specialising
in the Fire Services Stream.
 
Fifteen units must be completed:
- eight core compulsory units from group 1
- seven elective units from groups 2 and/or 3
 
Group 1 - Compulsory Units

ALL eight units must be completed
 
Group 2 - Elective Units listed in the Training Package

At least six and up to seven elective units must be completed
Subgroup 1 - Fire Services Stream electives. At least four and up to seven
units must be completed
Subgroup 1 - Common Electives. A maximum of three units may be completed
 
Group 3 - Other Plumbing & Services units at CIII and Diploma level

A maximum of one unit may be completed from this group. This group contains
units from other Plumbing & Services qualifications at CIII or diploma,
which can contribute to course completion.
 
Group 997 - Prerequisite Units
------------------------------
This group contains prerequisites that cannot contribute to course
completion. These prerequisites are for elective units.
 
Sustainability
--------------
Group 400 is an enrichment group containing unit(s) relating to
participating in sustainable work practices.  This group does not count
towards course completion.
 
 
NOTES FOR STUDENTS

the Learner Support course (TAFE Course Number 9999). Talk to your teacher
think you may require learner support.
 
2. SELECTION OF ELECTIVES
Talk to your teacher and/or workplace trainer to ensure that your
combination of electives provides you with a suitable vocational outcome.
 
3. RECOGNITION
If you have completed other relevant training you may be eligible to have
units of competency from previous training counted towards completion for
this course. Talk to your teacher or workplace trainer if you think you
may be eligible for recognition for units previously completed.
 
4. PREREQUISITE UNITS
Some electives in this course may have prerequisites that must be
completed  as part of this course. Refer to the Training Package or
consult your teacher for information about prerequisites to elective units.
