Course overview

Course Description

This course is for people wishing to develop specialised skills in plumbing
management.
 
Depending upon electives selected learners may develop skills to:
- conduct on-site supervision of building and construction projects;
- apply legal requirements to building and construction projects;
- arrange resources and prepare for the building or construction project;
- apply sustainable building design principles to water management systems;
- build thermally efficient and sustainable structures;
- minimise waste on the building and construction site;
- arrange building applications and approvals;
- produce 2-D architectural drawings using CAD software;
- prepare simple sketches and drawings;
- apply risk management techniques;
- manage projects;
- manage small teams.

This course has been designed to reflect the packaging requirements for
CPC40909: Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services specialising in the
Management stream, within the Construction, Plumbing and Services
Integrated  Framework Training Package (CPC08). The rules from CPC08
Training Package are as follows:
 
Plumbing and services - Management stream
-----------------------------------------
15 units of competency are required for award of this qualification:
- 10 compulsory units
- 5 elective units
 
The units must be completed as follows:
- all four common compulsory units
- all six compulsory units (Plumbing and services - Management stream)
- five elective units, ensuring that any licensing requirements are
addressed. Of these five electives:
- up to five units may be selected from the pool of elective units in the
Plumbing and services - Management stream
- two of the five may be selected from a Certificate IV qualification in
another endorsed Training Package or from the compulsory or elective units
of another stream within the Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services,
ensuring both the integrity of the AQF alignment and the industry context
of the qualification is maintained
- one of the five units may be drawn from Certificate III or Diploma
Plumbing and Services qualifications
- no more than three units may be selected from the pool of elective units
common to all streams.
 
Completion of the Work Health and Safety General Construction Induction
training program is required to enter and undertake the carrying out of
construction work on a site. The achievement of unit CPCCOHS1001A Work
safely in the construction industry based on the National Code of Practice
Training for Construction Work (SAC 2006) covers this requirement.
 
 
This TAFE NSW course has been structured to satisfy the Training Package
requirements for the Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services specialising
in the Management Stream.
 
Fifteen units must be completed:
- ten core compulsory units from group 1
- five elective units from groups 2, 3 and/or 4

Subgroup 1 - Management Stream electives. Up to five units may be completed

A maximum of two units may be completed from this group. This group
contains CIV units from other Qualifications and other Training Packages.
 
Group 4 - Other Plumbing & Services units at CIII and Diploma level

A maximum of one unit may be completed from this group. This group contains
units from other Plumbing & Services qualifications at CIII or diploma,
which can contribute to course completion.
 
Group 997

This group contains prerequisites that cannot contribute to course
completion. These prerequisites are for elective units.
 
Group 400
---------
This is an enrichment group containing unit(s) relating to participating in
sustainable work practices.  This group does not count towards course
completion.

2. SELECTION OF ELECTIVES
Talk to your teacher and/or workplace trainer to ensure that your
combination of electives provides you with a suitable vocational outcome.
 
3. RECOGNITION
If you have completed other relevant training you may be eligible to have
units of competency from previous training counted towards completion for
this course. Talk to your teacher or workplace trainer if you think you
may be eligible for recognition for units previously completed.
 
4. PREREQUISITE UNITS
Some electives in this course may have prerequisites that must be
completed as part of this course. Refer to the Training Package or consult
information about prerequisites to elective units.
