Course overview

Course Description

This course is for people who want to work as a production operator in an
underground metalliferous mine. It provides comprehensive and integrated
training and skills, knowledge and/or recognition required by skilled
operators working under minimal supervision.
 
You will learn to perform a range of functions involving a broad range of
skilled applications applied in a wide variety of contexts. You will
acquire the skills needed to apply some discretion and judgement in
deciding upon equipment, services or contingency measures.
 
By completing this course you will be able to observe statutory and legal
compliance requirements and work with environment, communication and risk
management systems.
 
You must be currently employed in or have authorised access to an
operational underground metalliferous mine while undertaking this course.

You must complete each group as specified as well as following the course

top of any group containing optional subgroups there will be a statement
saying how many you must do.
 
 
This course reflects the packaging requirements for RII30311 Certificate
III in Underground Metalliferous Mining (Release 2), within the RII09
Resource and Infrastructure Training Package, Release 3.2.
 
The rules from this Training Package are as follows:
 
Successful completion of fourteen (14) units of competency made up of:
 
- six (6) Core units, and
- eight (8) elective units of which:
. at least five (5) must come from the Group A electives listed in RII30311
. up to three (3) from the Group B electives listed in RII30311
. up to one (1) unit may come from Certificate II, Certificate III or
Certificate IV level from this, or any other Training Package
 
Units of competency chosen must be relevant to the competency requirements
the job function.
 
Care must be taken to ensure that all prerequisites specified within
imported units, or units chosen as electives, are complied with.
 
 
To satisfy the Training Package requirements, this TAFE NSW course has been
structured as follows:
 
14 units must be completed - 6 core plus 8 electives
 
PLEASE NOTE:

To allow Institutes to deliver the latest first aid unit HLTAID003 Provide
Aid, the new unit has been included as a replacement for the previous
superseded unit(s) HLTFA301B, HLTFA301C and HLTFA311A.
If the new unit satisfies the packaging rules for the qualification, the
superseded unit has been removed and the new unit has been added to the
"unidentified elective group". Alternatively, the superseded unit has been
removed and the new unit will be added to an existing or newly created
enrichment group if it does not satisfy the packaging rules for the
qualification.

If you have completed other relevant training you may be eligible to have
units of competency from previous training counted towards completion for
this course. Talk to your teacher or workplace trainer if you think you
may be eligible for recognition for units previously completed.
 
4. PREREQUISITE UNITS
 
Some units in this course may have prerequisites that must be completed in
lower level qualification or selected as part of this course. Refer to the
Training Package or consult your teacher for information about
prerequisites to elective units.

Requirements to receive the qualification

To achieve RII30311 Certificate III in Underground Metalliferous Mining
(TAFE NSW course 20082), learners are required to complete 14 units of
competency, comprising:
 
-   All 6 core units from Group 1
-   8 elective units including:
. At least 5 and no more than 8 elective units from Group 2
. Up to 3 elective units from Group 3
. Up to 1 elective units from Group 4.
