Course overview

Course Description

This course is for trainees in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry
who want to gain skills relevant to the operations and practices in their
workplace. It combines on-the-job and off-the-job training.

You will learn how to work safely and efficiently in the running of many
of the processes, assist others in their work and/or supervise others in
the manufacture of pharmaceutical products. You will also learn about the
monitoring of good manufacturing practice, quality systems and the
analysis and management of workplace information.

Enrolment in this course is subject to appropriate partnership arrangements
being negotiated between relevant enterprises and TAFE NSW. Contact the
campus offering the course for further details.

Career Opportunities

Advanced pharmaceutical manufacturing operator.

Articulation

When you finish this course you can enrol in Certificate IV in
Food Processing (3389) or Certificate IV in Food Processing (6445)

What you must do to complete the course

The course structure below shows what you must do to complete this course.
units/modules are arranged in groups and sometimes also in subgroups.

You must complete each group as specified as well as following the course
completion instructions. If a course contains optional groups there will
statement at the top of the course indicating how many you must do. At the
top of any group containing optional subgroups there will be a statement
saying how many you must do.

The course structure has been developed to meet both the requirements of
the Food Processing Industry Training Package (FDF03) as well as the
additional requirements of Vocational Training Order 2957 for trainees in
NSW, in the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector of the food processing
industry, to gain the Certificate III in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
qualification (FDF30203).

TRAINING PACAKAGE COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS

To be awarded the Certificate III qualification learners must complete
thirteen (13) units of competency.

The thirteen (13) units are made up of:

(A) four (4) core units
FDFCORBM2A Use basic mathematical concepts
FDFCORHS3A Monitor the implementation of occupational health and safety
policies and procedures
FDFCORWCM2A Present and apply workplace information
FDFPHGMP3B Monitor the implementation of Good Manufacturing Practice
Procedures

(B) three (3) units comprising
- EITHER
unit FDFZPRSYS3A "Operate Processes in a Production System" and two (2)
appropriate pre-requisite units form the AQF Level 2 specialist units
(that is, AQF Level 2 specialist units that relate to processes which are
part of the production system)
- OR
unit FDFPKSYS3A "Operate Processes in a Packaging System" and two (2)
appropriate pre-requisite units for the AQF Level 2 specialist units
(that relate to processes which are part of the packaging system)

(C) one (1) unit must be chosen from AQF Level 1 specialist or optional
units

(D) and five (5) additional specialist and optional units selected as
follows:

- at least two (2) and up to five (5) further AQF Level 3 specialist or
optional units (But note that all three of the following assessment
units count as only one unit for the purpose of completing this
qualification:
TAAASS401A Plan and organise assessment,
TAAASS402A Assess competence, and
TAAASS404A Participate in assessment validation)

- up to three (3) further AQF Level 2 specialist or optional units

- a maximum of one (1) unit from AQF Level 4

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE TRAINEESHIP IN NSW
In addition to the above requirements, the vocational training order 2957
requires for a Traineeship in NSW that:
- the AQF Level 1 core work health and safety unit (FDFCORHS1A
Follow work procedures to maintain health and safety) is a pre-requisite
for the unit FDFCORHS3A Monitor the implementation of occupational health
and safety policies and procedures.

Typically those trainees entering directly into the Certificate II in
Pharmaceutical Manufacturing (not formally possessing the AQF Level 1 core
competencies) would be working in a commensurate level job role and should
most of the skills and knowledge required of the core AQF Level 1
pre-requisites (otherwise they should not be entering the course at AQF
level 3). Thus the pre-requisite unit FDFCORHS1A has been included in
Group 1, the core compulsory group.

COMPLIANCE WITH PACKAGING RULES IN TAFE NSW IMPLEMENTATION

The following course with its Groups and Subgroups reflects the above
requirements, although any units from other registered training packages
will need to be incorporated as needed.

Unit Weighting
--------------

Summary of Course Completion

To be awarded the Certificate III in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing
(FDF30203) learners must complete five (5) compulsory units of competency
as well as accumulating twenty seven (27) points from the weighted
elective units. The course completion requirements will be achieved as
follows: - Complete five (5) compulsory units (Group 1).
- Accumulate twenty seven (27) points from the weighted elective units in
Group 2 as follows:
- Three (3) points, from the weighted unit FDFZPKSYS3A or
FDFZPRSYS3A (Group 2 Subgroup 1)

units (from Group 2 Subgroup 4) appropriate for the choice made in
Group 2 Subgroup 1
- Up to a further nine points (9) from the weighted AQF level 2
specialist units (Group 2 Subgroup 4)
- At least six (6) and no more than fifteen (15) points from Group 2
Subgroup 2 weighted Optional Specialist AQF level 3 units.*
- Three (3) points from weighted Optional and Specialist AQF level 1
units (Group 2 Sub group 3)
- Up to three (3) points from the weighted AQF level 4 units (Group 2
Subgroup 5)
- Up to nine (9) points from the weighted Optional AQF level 2 units
(Group 2 Subgroup 6)

*Note: Specialist AQF level 3 Assessment Units (Group 2 Subgroup 2)
TAAAASS401A Plan and organise assessment
TAAASS402A Assess competence, and
TAAASS404A Participate in assessment validation
For the purposes of counting to a FDF qualification the three Assessment
Units are counted as one unit, by the use of unit weightings.

PRE-REQUISITE UNITS OF COMPETENCY

Any pre-requisite units must be completed. The Table below is a list of
all the pre-requisite requirements for the suite of Pharmaceutical
Certificates (I-IV). It provides information for the planning of future
unit selection. In the table below pre-requisites of those units which are
possible choices in this Certificate III qualification, have their
location in the course structure, (Group/Subgroup) indicated in brackets
after the module name.

ADDITIONAL IMPORTED UNITS

The FDF03 Food Processing Training Package lists many units which have been
imported from other registered training packages, and has allocated these
to various categories (eg, AQF 2 Specialist, AQF 3 Optional). Imported
units from other Training Packages should not duplicate the content of
units already included. Typically these units should align at the same AQF
alignment in their source Training Package and their units should be
treated as optional units.

Students requiring support to meet their goals will need to co-enrol in the
Learner Support Course (9999).
