Course overview

Course Description

This course is designed for horse grooms working under supervision in the
performance horse industry. You will learn how to make decisions within a
predictable range of tasks and work with a wide range of horses, including
those that are flighty and/or of high economic value. You will work mostly
in and around horse stables, on studs and will have some exposure to
competition events.
 
By completing this course, you will be able to carry out a range of duties
under supervision including handling, feeding, grooming and caring for
performance horses as well as attending competition events.

When you finish this course you can apply for advanced standing in the
Certificate III in Horse Industry Practice (Performance Horse) (7280).

What you must do to complete the course

The course structure below shows what you must do to complete this course.
units/modules are arranged in groups and sometimes also in subgroups.
 
You must complete each group as specified as well as following the course
completion instructions.   If a course contains optional groups there will
statement at the top of the course indicating how many you must do.  At the
top of any group containing optional subgroups there will be a statement
saying how many you must do.
 
 
The Certificate II in Horse Industry Operations (Performance Horse)
contains 4 groups of units and modules. Learners must complete all units
from Group 1 and one subgroup from Group 2.
 
Group 1 is a compulsory core group containing eleven (11) units. Learners
must complete all the units from this group.  NB  For safety/WH&S reasons
the unit NSWTEQU205A must be delivered and assessed after SISOEQO201A
Handle Horses.  

Group 2 is an elective group consisting of 2 subgroups. Learners must
complete a minimum of three (3) units from sub group 1 or one (1) unit
from sub group 2.  

Group 887 is an enrichment group that contains a module for work placement
calculations unit. Other units have been included to support the delivery
of units in other groups. These units do not count towards course
completion.  

Group 888 is a tutorial group and is included to assist learners who may
experience difficulties in completing the course due to concerns with
language, literacy or numeracy. Tutorial modules do not count towards
completion.  

Sustainability
--------------
Group 400 is an enrichment group containing unit(s) relating to
participating in sustainable work practices.  This group does not count
towards course completion.
