Course overview

Course Description

This course is for people who want be competent in a wide range of general
information and communications technology (ICT) technical functions and to
achieve a degree of self-sufficiency as an advanced ICT user.
 
Persons working at this level will support information technology
activities in the workplace across a wide range of ICT areas. This
particular course provides you with the opportunity to develop specific
skills in PC Support.

Career Opportunities

Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include help desk officer,
help desk assistant, PC support, technical support.

Articulation

When you finish this course, you may be eligible for advanced standing in the
ICA40211 the Certificate IV in IT Support, ICA40111 Certificate IV in
Information Technology or a range of other Certificate IV qualifications.

 There are no entry requirements for this qualification.
Pathways into the qualification

Preferred pathways for candidates considering this qualification may include:
-    after achieving ICA20111 Certificate II in Information, Digital Media and
Technology, or other relevant qualifications or units equivalent to the
core of ICA20111
-    with demonstrated vocational experience in a range of work environments

The course structure below shows what you must do to complete this course.

You must complete each group as specified as well as following the course
completion instructions.   If a course contains optional groups there will
statement at the top of the course indicating how many you must do.  At the
top of any group containing optional subgroups there will be a statement
saying how many you must do.
 
 
This course reflects the packaging requirements for ICA30111 Certificate
III in Information, Digital Media and Technology (Support) (Release 2)
within the ICA11 Information and Communication Technology Training
Package, Release 2.0. The rules from ICA11 R2.0 are as follows:
 
Packaging rules
===============
Total number of units = 17
6 core units plus
11 elective units
 
The elective units consist of:
-   5 units from one of the following specialist elective groups:
-   Group A Applications
-   Group B Network administration
-   Group C Support
-   Group D Web technologies
-   Group E Multimedia
-   up to 6 from any of the specialist elective groups below or from Group
general elective units below
-   up to 3 from elsewhere in ICA11 or any other Training Package or
accredited course at Certificate II, III or IV level.
 
The elective units chosen must be relevant to the work outcome and meet
local industry needs.
 
To satisfy the Training Package requirements, this TAFE NSW course has been
structured as follows:
 
A total of 17 units must be completed - 6 compulsory plus 11 electives
 
Group 1 - Core Units
--------------------
All 6 core units must be completed
 
Group 2 - Group C Support Specialist Group
------------------------------------------
All 5 units must be completed
 
Group 3 - Other Specialist Groups and General Electives
-------------------------------------------------------
At least 3 and no more than 6 units may be completed from the subgroups in
group
 
Group 4 - Other elective units at Certificate II, III or IV level from
ICA11 or any Training Package or accredited course

No more than 3 units may be selected from this group.
 
NOTES FOR STUDENTS

1. LEARNER SUPPORT
Students who require support to meet their learning goals may co-enrol in
the Learner Support course (TAFE Course Number 9999). Talk to your teacher
think you may require learner support.
 
2. SELECTION OF ELECTIVES
Talk to your teacher and/or workplace trainer to ensure that your
combination of electives provides you with a suitable vocational outcome.
 
3. RECOGNITION
If you have completed other relevant training you may be eligible to have
units of competency from previous training counted towards completion for
this course. Talk to your teacher or workplace trainer if you think you
may be eligible for recognition for units previously completed.
 
4. PREREQUISITE UNITS
Some units in this course have prerequisites that must be completed in a
lower level qualification or selected as part of this course. Refer to the
Package or consult your teacher for information about prerequisites to
elective units.

Requirements to receive the qualification

To achieve the qualification ICA30111 Certificate III in Information, Digital
Media and Technology (Support) (TAFENSW course 10306), learners are
required to complete 17 units of competency,
comprising:
 
-   All 6 core units from Group 1
-   All 5 elective units from Group 2
-   At least 3 and no more than 6 elective units from Group 3
-   No more than 3 elective units from Group 4
