Course overview

Course Description

This course is for people wanting to enter or currently employed in the
civil construction industry. It reflects the role of specialist personnel
who provide technical specialist tasks.
 
You will learn to perform tasks involving a broad range of varied
activities most of which are complex and non-routine. Examples include
skills involving risk management, quality management systems, workplace
safety, environmental policies and technical solutions for non-routine
problems.  

You will be assessed in a work environment or a simulated environment as
specified in the Resources and Infrastructure Training Package. You will be
advised of the requirements relating to accessing a workplace(s) and
relevant WHS safety requirements at enrolment.

Entry Requirements

 There are no entry requirements for this qualification.
Before commencing workshop activities or on-site training and assessment in this
course, learners must have completed WorkCover approved WHS General Induction
Training.

What you must do to complete the course

The course structure below shows what you must do to complete this course.
units/modules are arranged in groups and sometimes also in subgroups.
 
You must complete each group as specified as well as following the course
completion instructions.   If a course contains optional groups there will
statement at the top of the course indicating how many you must do.  At the
top of any group containing optional subgroups there will be a statement
saying how many you must do.
 
 
This course reflects the packaging requirements for RII40609 Certificate
IV in Civil Construction Operations (Release 2) within the RII09 Resources
Infrastructure Training Package (Release 3.2).
 
The qualification packaging rules state:
 
Successful completion of twelve (12) units of competency made up of:
- four (4) Core units, and
- eight (8) elective units of which:
- at least four (4) from the Group A electives listed in RII40609
- at least two (2) must come from the Group B listed in RII40609
- up to one (1) unit may come from this, or any other Training Package or
accredited course.
 
Units of competency chosen must
- be relevant to the competency requirements for the job function
- reflect the competency profile for the occupation at the enterprise level
- in the case of accredited course units of competency, not duplicate in
part or in whole any unit from a Training Package.
 
Care must be taken to ensure that all prerequisites specified within
imported units, or units chosen as electives, are complied with.
 
 
To satisfy the Training Package requirements, this TAFE NSW course has been
structured as follows:
 
12 units must be completed - 4 core plus 12 electives

2. SELECTION OF ELECTIVES
Talk to your teacher and/or workplace trainer to ensure that your
combination of electives provides you with a suitable vocational outcome.
 
3. RECOGNITION
If you have completed other relevant training you may be eligible to have
units of competency from previous training counted towards completion for
this course. Talk to your teacher or workplace trainer if you think you
may be eligible for recognition for units previously completed.
 
4. PREREQUISITE UNITS
Some units in this course may have prerequisites that must be completed in
lower level qualification or selected as part of this course. Refer to the
Training Package or consult your teacher for information about
prerequisites to elective units.

Requirements to receive the qualification

To achieve RII40609 Certificate IV in Civil Construction Operations, learners
are required to complete 12 units of competency as follows:
 
-  all 4 core units from Group 1
-  8 elective units including:
- at least 4 units from Group 2
- at least 2 units from Group 3
- a maximum of 1 unit from Group 4.
