Course overview

Course Description

This course is for apprentices and people wanting to acquire the skills and
knowledge needed to work in the flooring technology sector of the
furnishing industry.
 
You will learn how to prepare sub-floors and install carpet, timber and
resilient flooring; apply finishes to floors; repair existing flooring; and
provide advice to customers. You will also learn about work health and
safety, communications, calculations and working with others.

Career Opportunities

Floor covering and finishing tradesperson, workshop manager or self-employment
in the industry.

Pathways from the qualification

Further training pathways from this qualification may include LMF40202
Certificate IV in Furnishing Technology or similar furnishing qualifications
plus relevant supervisory, management or competitive manufacturing
qualifications.

Entry Requirements

 There are no formal educational requirements for this course. The learner must
be employed or have access to a flooring workplace to be able to gain
sufficient experience to successfully achieve the units of competence
requirements.
Pathways into the qualification
-------------------------------
This qualification may be accessed by direct entry. Credit can be granted
towards this qualification by those who have completed LMF20908 Certificate II
in Flooring Technology or achieved equivalent industry experience.

 

Early Exit Points

 Subject to completion of certain specified units in this qualification, learners
may be eligible for LMF20908 Certificate II in Flooring Technology (17709). For

The course structure below shows what you must do to complete this course.
units/modules are arranged in groups and sometimes also in subgroups.
 
You must complete each group as specified as well as following the course
completion instructions.   If a course contains optional groups there will
statement at the top of the course indicating how many you must do.  At the
top of any group containing optional subgroups there will be a statement
saying how many you must do.
 
 
This course has been designed to reflect the packaging requirements for
LMF31208 Certificate III in Flooring Technology within the Furnishing
Training Package (LMF02v). The rules from the LMF02v8 Training Package are
 
Packaging Rules
---------------
To be awarded the LMF31208 Certificate III in Flooring Technology,
competency must be achieved in twenty-five (25) units of competency.
 
* eleven (11) core units of competency
* fourteen (14) elective units of competency
 
Notes:
------
Group A and B - Select a  minimum of nine (9) units from Groups A and B
with at least four (4) units being coded LMFFL3****
 
Group C - Up to five (5) relevant units may be chosen from units not
already selected from Groups A or B, or units available in this Training
Package or other endorsed Training Packages and accredited courses.
Those units must be aligned at Certificate II level (maximum 2 units)
Certificate III level (maximum 4 units) or Certificate IV level
(maximum 2 units).
 
Units selected from other Training Packages and accredited courses via
Group C must be relevant to the qualification outcome and not duplicate
units available within this qualification.
 
If Competitive Manufacturing units are chosen (identified as MSACM in the
code), these should only be selected on the basis of work requirements.
 
To satisfy Training Package requirements, this TAFE NSW course has been
structured as follows:
 
25 units must be completed - 11 compulsory and 14 elective
 
Group 1 - Compulsory Units

Group 2 - Group A Elective Units listed in LMF31208

At least 4 units must be completed. The remaining elective units may be
selected from this group and/or groups 3 and/or group 4.
 
NOTE: Select a minimum of nine (9) units from Groups 2 and 3 with at least
(4) being coded LMFFL3****

A maximum of 5 units may be selected from this group. This group has 5

1. LEARNER SUPPORT

think you may require learner support.
 
2. SELECTION OF ELECTIVES
Talk to your teacher and/or workplace trainer to ensure that your
combination of electives provides you with a suitable vocational outcome.
 
3. RECOGNITION
If you have completed other relevant training you may be eligible to have
units of competency from previous training counted towards completion for
this course. Talk to your teacher or workplace trainer if you think you
may be eligible for recognition for units previously completed.
 
4. PREREQUISITE UNITS
Some units in this course may have prerequisites that must be completed in
lower level qualification or selected as part of this course. Refer to the
Training Package or consult your teacher for information about
prerequisites to elective units.

Requirements to receive the qualification

To achieve qualification LMF31208 Certificate III in Flooring Technology
(TAFE NSW course number 9559), learners are required to complete 25 units of
competency, comprising:
-  all 11 compulsory units from Group 1
-  at least 4 elective units from Group 2
-  no more than 5 elective units from Group 3
-  no more than 5 elective units from Group 4
