This qualification is for people who want to have a career in design. It provides students with broad fundamental skills in design with an emphasis on exploration and experimentation of the design process. In the latter part of the course learners can explore aspects of specific design disciplines which can be extended upon with further study.

You may select to study a pathway within this course that provides a "specialist" design outcome dependant on the electives studied. However, not all TAFE NSW colleges offer all electives.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • While there is no formal academic entry requirement for this course, it is recommended applicants have completed year 12 or equivalent.

    COURSE STRUCTURE AND UNITS

    To receive the Certificate IV in Design students must complete all core units and, if available, a range of additional units.

    Note: Additional units contain compulsory and elective units which may vary between each semester and campus, and will depend on a number of considerations including the packaging rules for the qualification and demand for the unit.

    ARTICULATIONS

    This qualification prepares people for learning at higher levels across a broad range of design disciplines.In particular this qualification can lead to further study in the Diploma of Graphic Design (R10418) and the Diploma of Visual Arts (R10416).

     

    ADDITIONAL COSTS

    Course fees and duration can vary based on the Institute you want to study at, the entry requirements for the course, and the year you will begin study.

    Additional costs for uniforms, equipment, textbooks and materials (if applicable) range from A$300 - $1,000 per course.

    CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

    There may be some employment opportunities as a junior design assistant, working in the graphic and digital design sectors.

You can submit a single TAFE NSW application form and will be able to apply for one Student Visa for the full duration of the package.
