OVERVIEW

This qualification is for those who want to gain the skills, knowledge and attitudes needed to develop and communicate creative graphic design solutions across the areas of print and digital design. You will learn to combine technical, creative and conceptual skills to create designs that meet client requirements and solve a range of visual communication challenges, and will be able to analyse and synthesise information from a range of sources to generate design solutions.

To enter this qualification you will need to already have a sound understanding of design theory and practice. These skills and knowledge may have been gained through personal or work experience or through completion of formal study, such as the Certificate IV in Design (Graphic Design) R11412

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

You will be able to work as graphic designers in many different commercial and community contexts across both print and digital media, working in junior or generalist roles, including areas such advertising and promotion, art direction, branding, corporate identity, instructional design, packaging, signage and web design.

  • Pre-requisite to study at Design Centre Enmore College is the Certificate IV in Design (Graphic Design) (R11412) or the Certificate IV in Design (Multi Discipline) CUA40715DM
  • Pre-requisite to study at Western Sydney Region Kingswood College is the Certificate III in Design Fundamentals (R10408)
  • Pre-requisite to study at South Western Sydney Region Campbelltown is the Certificate III in Design Fundamentals (R10408)
  • Kingscliff and Port Macquarie College requires completion of Year 12 or equivalent and it is preferable to hold a Certificate IV or equivalent experience

    To receive this course students must complete all core units and, if available, a range of additional units.

    Note: Additional units contain compulsory and elective units which may vary between each semester and campus, and will depend on a number of considerations including the packaging rules for the qualification and demand for the unit.

    • 9 core units plus 10 elective units of which 6 units must be selected from the electives list below
    • 4 units may be selected from the remaining listed electives or any currently endorsed training package qualification or accredited course at Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma level

    STUDY PATHWAYS

    Graduates may engage in further learning in vocational education through the Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design (CUA60315A) or higher education qualifications in graphic design and broader areas of practice, such as digital media or other design disciplines.

    STUDY PACKAGES

    Plan your study around your life with a TAFE NSW study package. Our study packages allow for multiple courses to be packaged together that can lead you to a TAFE NSW or an Australian University Bachelor Degree with credits. This gives you a one stop shop by completing your applications for the whole package through TAFE NSW allowing you to apply for one student Visa for the full duration of the package.

    TAFE NSW allows for two or more courses to be packaged together, either to meet the prerequisite requirements for a course or to plan your studies around your career goals. You can submit a single TAFE NSW application form and will be able to apply for one Student Visa for the full duration of the package.
