This course is for people who want to work as a specialised telecommunications network technician. The course provides you with practical skills and knowledge in telecommunications and IT networks using internet protocol (IP) systems to:

  • install, test and commission voice and data communications networks in medium to large enterprises using Next Generation Networks (NGN) technologies
  • provide specialist technical support in monitoring and administering the installation and upgrade of large telecommunications and IT networks
  • cover local area networks (LAN) and wide area networks (WAN), IP based protocol networks, 3G/4G cellular mobile networks, microwave systems, wireless and wired line networks, databases, routers, switches and servers
  • install and maintain IP based network telecommunications equipment

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Prerequisite: Certificate IV in Telecommunications Engineering Technology ( Network Engineering) (ICT41215)
  • Academic IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL (iBT) 46 or English Language Programs (Beginner to Advanced) at TAFE NSW or equivalent

    COURSE STRUCTURE AND UNITS

    To receive the Diploma of Telecommunications Engineering ( Networking) students must complete all core units and, if available, a range of additional units.

    Note: Additional units contain compulsory and elective units which may vary between each semester and campus, and will depend on a number of considerations including the packaging rules for the qualification and demand for the unit.
