Textiles, fashion and furnishing

Are you passionate about beautiful design? Whether you want to create amazing works in clothes, interiors or furnishings, this is the career for you.

Australia is quickly becoming renowned for its innovative fashion. Australia's luxury retailing, fast fashion and sports fashion industries are all growing strong. So there are great opportunities for you to get involved in either the creative or management side of the business.

There are many great careers available. Of course you may want to be become a designer – with over 11,000 fashion, industrial and jewellery designers currently in Australia. For every great design business there's a team of professionals needed. You might take a role in product development, buying or supply chain management, making sure fashion ranges can be delivered on time, to budget and with the best materials.

Whatever the role, you're in an exciting industry full of rewards, both creative and financial. You'll work closely with a range of creative people and have a valuable skill set that can take you all around the world.   

Theatrical costume makers and designers can earn $1216 a week, sewing machinists $754, fashion, industrial and jewellery designers $1115 and fashion coordinators $1264*.
