TAFE NSW Taree student Brad Hancock has been recognised for his academic achievement and positive work ethic at the TAFE NSW Excellence Awards in Kurri Kurri last night.

Mr Hancock who completed Certificate III in Horticulture at TAFE NSW Taree in 2018, was announced as the winner of the prestigious Agribusiness Student of the Year at a gala awards ceremony at the Hunter Valley Hotel Academy.

TAFE NSW Regional General Manager, Susie George, commended Brad for his commitment and dedication which he has shown to his studies.

“Brad has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the learning and assessment process and the application of this learning into his workplace. He has proven to be a willing and engaging student and has shown leadership qualities and maturity by mentoring younger trainees and helping them to complete assigned tasks.

“Brad’s success is further proof that TAFE NSW has the greatest range of courses available to give our students a head-start in their pursuit of exciting careers. It also delivers on our commitment to train the workforce leaders of the future when, where and how it suits them,” Susie said.

Brad said TAFE NSW is predominately skill based which prepares students for real work and life situations.

“I constantly strive to acquire new knowledge, skills, behaviours and values to improve my abilities and myself as a person. By giving students the opportunity of hands on work, TAFE NSW allows you to put skills into practice.

“I’m very happy and so honored to have won this award. I changed career paths when starting TAFE NSW, this award is recognition of that huge life change and I’m so happy I made the decision.”

Students from Port Macquarie, Forster, Mardi Casino, Hunter Valley, Grafton and Coffs Harbour shared the 14 awards that were presented at the ceremony.
