TAFE NSW Trainee Georgia Schaefer

With an unemployment rate in Casino of 9.2%[i] in comparison to the New South Wales state average of 3.9%[ii], TAFE NSW is encouraging local job seekers to equip themselves with skills and access to industry contacts in order to succeed in finding a career path right for them.

TAFE NSW research has uncovered that the health, wellbeing and community services sector is forecast to have the largest employment increase at 4% in comparison to other industries between 2018 and 2021. Growth in the industry will be driven by an ageing population and demand for services in remote areas.

Scrivener and Webb pharmacy is evidence of this increase, hiring seven new trainees recently and choosing TAFE NSW to deliver a Certificate II in Community Pharmacy to their new employees.

Scrivener and Webb Pharmacy Business Manager, Julie-anne Simeoni said that TAFE NSW are equipped with the knowledge and practical experience that they need to work in or pursue employment opportunities with the pharmacy.

“We ensure our trainees attend TAFE NSW because they are the largest and most well-established training provider in Australia.

“Our employees graduate with the foundation training required to work in the pharmacy and have a skill level well-above what a new employee would come into the workplace with, so it is an easy choice for us as a business to maintain our high level of service by sending our trainees to TAFE NSW.”

According to the recently released Grattan Institute report, the VET sector offers courses that typically lead to higher incomes than low-ATAR university graduates are likely to earn.[iii]

Georgia Schaefer will graduate from TAFE NSW next year and said she enjoys her job and counts herself lucky to have found employment in a Casino and in a career that she loves.

“I have learnt lot about pharmacy at TAFE NSW and I have found the course work very interesting. The teachers are very supportive, they keep in constant contact with us and we can call or text them anytime for questions and information.”

There are a range of pharmacy courses available for enrolment at TAFE NSW Casino. For more detail on TAFE NSW courses, face-to-face or online, visit www.tafensw.com.au or call 131 601.
