Chili Peppers' producer headlines TAFE NSW Newcastle launch: Trending Now:Creativity2020+

8 November, 2019

In a coup for TAFE NSW Newcastle, a music producer who has worked with international music royalty such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Metallica and Adele will deliver a masterclass to music and performing arts students on Wednesday.

Andrew Scheps is just one of the industry heavy-weights that will be on hand at the Trending Now: Creativity2020+ week-long event which will also include the house musicians from one of Australia’s best known reality television shows, ‘The Voice’.

TAFE NSW Head Teacher of Music and Performing Arts, Teresa Conicella, said that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for budding musicians, singers, and sound engineers and producers to get hands-on experience from some of the best in the business.

“Anyone who is interested in a creative career should come along to interact with Andrew Scheps and watch the TAFE NSW Newcastle students go head-to-head in a studio duel with the house musicians from ‘The Voice’,” Ms Conicella said.

“The musicians will demonstrate how they work with artists, how they deal with tight deadlines and how they maintain their performance level”.

“The week is jam-packed with workshops, live musical performances and interactive sessions, which is a great way for anyone who is thinking about studying at TAFE NSW to come along and experience what it’s like to learn in our hands-on facilities.”

Live Performance Australia data shows that more than eight million people attend a live music performance in Australia each year. Within the technology-dominated creative sector, music and performing arts are the standouts, with a seven year average growth rate of four per cent.

TAFE NSW Newcastle graduate Tegan Sadler will present on the day, sharing her techniques and experiences including a mixing a session in the in-house sound production studio.

“I discovered my passion for music and production while studying an Advanced Diploma of Sound Production at TAFE NSW and learnt practical skills that I am using in my job every day. Anyone who is interested in a creative career should come along to this event”.
