COUNTING HER BLESSINGS: HOW TAFE NSW HELPED AMELIA LANDED HER DREAM JOB

A Mascot local has credited TAFE NSW for allowing her to achieve her lifelong goal of becoming an accountant, after relocating to Australia from Indonesia to build a better life.

According to Hays, accounting is one of the top 10 jobs in demand this year in Australia.1

Amelia Amelia, 22, studied a Bachelor of Applied Commerce (Majoring in Accounting) at TAFE NSW Ultimo and is now employed full time at TMN Accountants as a Junior Accountant.

“I moved from Indonesia to Australia in 2014 as I wanted to build a better life. I’ve always dreamed of becoming an accountant – my sister, aunt and cousin are all accountants and I’m proud to have reached my goal and to be doing what I love,” Amelia said.

“My TAFE NSW teachers were amazing and equipped me with the skills and knowledge I needed to pursue a challenging and rewarding career, here in Australia.”

TAFE NSW Head Teacher Lekha Ganatra said the three-year Bachelor of Applied Commerce has been designed in consultation with industry to ensure students have the practical skills they need to hit the ground running.

“With our employer connections and industry-aligned training, students like Amelia are well-placed to gain a job in the financial services sector upon graduation,” Lekha said.

“Through the Bachelor of Applied Commerce, students can major in accounting, financial planning, or both – and take advantage of a variety of internships and work placements to enhance their employability and career prospects.

“Accredited by professional bodies such as CA, CPA, FPA and IPA, the degree provides students with strong theoretical knowledge across a broad range of subjects including management, marketing, law, economics, and business statistics, along with the practical experience they need to be job-ready.”
