Thirteen Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising students from TAFE NSW Newcastle presented their end-of-year projects to teachers yesterday and breathed a sigh of satisfaction on completing their course.

The students, ranging in ages from 18 to their 40s, based their assessment projects on a brief to design a clothing range for a local boutique.

The result is a wonderfully colourful, inspired array of fiercely fine-tuned garments fit for any clothing store.

Head Teacher Anna Bleakley said: “Assessment day is a big occasion for our Diploma of Fashion students.

“It is a culmination of all their hard work in exploring and developing their creativity and technical skills.

“I am so impressed with the designs our students presented. Each piece is a fabulous demonstration of their ability to grasp and further the vast industry knowledge and techniques we have shared with them over the past year.”

The creations are being marked over the next week and students will receive their results the week after.

The Diploma of Fashion exhibition will run 24-28 June at TAFE NSW Newcastle in D Block, Room DD2.9, to coincide with TAFE NSW InfoFest.

During InfoFest, TAFE NSW throws open its doors day and night to assist with career advice, enrolment and tours of its state-of-the-art facilities. Sessions are also available online.
