TAFE NSW interior design students have wowed industry guests with their expertly curated virtual exhibition and portfolio launch “U-nite” as part of the Design Centre Enmore graduate show.

With CommSec reporting a 7.4% increase in loans for home renovation in June, and Job Outlook stating employment in interior design is expected to grow 16.3% over the next 5 years, it’s the perfect time for these budding interior designers to start their careers.

Hosted by Deputy Lord Mayor Jess Scully, the immersive online industry experience showcased the graduates’ vision of what it means to be an interior designer.

Teacher Catherine Whitting said the coordination and execution of the virtual exhibition was the perfect way for the students to showcase their skills.

“The project is a great opportunity for TAFE NSW Interior Design students to really put into practice a lot of what they have learnt throughout the year. Fly-throughs and high-quality visual representations of the students’ work gave our industry guests a front-row seat to the incredible skills and innovative techniques these designers have gained,” Ms Whitting said.

“These graduates will be uniquely positioned to meet the increased demand for interior design services post COVID-19.”

The virtual interior design exhibition is an opportunity for students to showcase the breadth of their skills to industry and make connections with potential employers.

“Our industry connections are second to none, meaning our students get on the fast-track to be employed at some of the industry’s most well regarded design firms,” said Ms Whitting.

International student Jane Kosol graduated from a degree in Fine Arts in Thailand, and travelled to Australia to pursue the Bachelor of Interior Design at TAFE NSW and help grow her family business.

“My family has a well-established interior design business back home in Thailand that has been going for over 20 years. I heard about the reputation the Bachelor of Interior Design at TAFE NSW Design Centre Enmore had in the industry so I was excited to come and learn the skills to contribute to the family business.

“The main concept of my portfolio final project was to showcase Australia’s beautiful earth tones and I’ve taken colour and design inspiration from the beach sand and fluidity of the ocean.”
