HOW TAFE NSW BOOSTED BRENDAN’S CAREER

A Kingston local is showing it’s never too late to upskill, having turned to study online through TAFE NSW to boost his skills in marketing and grow his passion project.

After working as a hairdresser for 17 years, 35-year-old Brendan Arnold enrolled in the Certificate IV in Marketing and Communication through TAFE Digital to gain the skills needed to grow his LGBTIQ community group and the salon he managed.

After dipping his toe in marketing, he decided to move cities to follow a new career path. He is currently working as a Communications and Engagement Officer for the RSPCA.

“I decided to enrol in the Certificate IV in Marketing and Communication as my experience in managing a hair salon and running a community group, Midas Creations, has shown me I have a knack for building brands, and I wanted to formalise and develop my marketing skills,” Mr Arnold said.

“The course was invaluable and ultimately inspired me to spread my wings and relocate to a new city to forge a career in marketing. I’d strongly encourage anyone else considering a career in the field to enrol in the course.

“The flexibility of studying online through TAFE Digital allowed me to juggle full-time work and competing priorities, and equipped me with the technical skills in media, marketing communications, and copy writing I need to support the various projects I’m involved in and pursue a rewarding career in the industry.”

TAFE NSW Head Teacher of Business Services Dianne See said the Certificate IV in Marketing and Communication provides students like Brendan with the skills they need to hit the ground running and succeed in the high-growth industry.

“Through theory and practical course work, students learn how to research and analyse consumer behaviour and develop and measure marketing strategies to meet client needs,” Ms See said.

“The nationally accredited Certificate IV in Marketing and Communication provides a strong pathway into further study or a rewarding career as marketing, communications or PR assistant.”
