Knowledge is Power: TAFE NSW upskills Lismore City council

As Australians adapt to increasingly fast-paced, technology-fuelled and KPI-focused work environments, Lismore City Council is riding the wave by engaging TAFE NSW to upskill more than 8 staff in Civil and Construction compliance.

According to the Association for Talent Development, companies which offer comprehensive training programs have 218% higher income per employee than companies without formalised training[i].

Lismore City is one of several councils working with TAFE NSW along the Central Coast to Far North Coast NSW region to better equip staff to excel in today’s workplace. Councils are undertaking a wide range of training and professional development across skill areas including digital literacy, work, health & safety, project management and leadership.

The Lismore City Council training will be rolled out through to May 2019 and delivered onsite at Council headquarters in Goonellabah. As Australia’s largest training provider, TAFE NSW is providing expert industry trainers to deliver Civil and Construction compliance training tailored to the Council’s business operations.

Human Resources Manager at Lismore Council, Tonia Leckie said that this is a fantastic opportunity for council staff.

“The Local Government Skills Strategy through TAFE NSW provides us with this opportunity to upskill our people and provide training that enhances our workforce across the whole organisation.

“Not only does training such as this ensure we have a competent and skilled workforce but it also keeps employees engaged and challenged in the workplace. Providing our people with opportunities to improve their skills base and knowledge, challenge themselves and continue learning and growing professionally is great for them, our organisation and the wider community. This is a really practical and dynamic partnership that is delivering real results on the ground.”

TAFE NSW Regional Manager, Susie George said TAFE NSW is thrilled to be working with Lismore City Council to deliver this specialised Civil and Construction compliance training.

“TAFE NSW caters to the individual needs of businesses and organisations to deliver the unique training they need. Continued skills advancement is critical in today’s workforce; for an organisation to continue evolving, individuals need to constantly learn and grow,” Ms George said.

“Although TAFE NSW are delivering this particular training rollout via face-to-face training, courses such as these can also be studied online, when and where it suits students, via TAFE Digital.”
