Now is the perfect time to consider studying a TAFE NSW business or customer service skills short course after recently revealed statistics suggest a 3.6% jobs boom in the technology and business services sector in regional NSW over the next three years.i

TAFE NSW Business Teacher, Madeline Grimes, said a Statement of Attainment in Business Skills and a Statement of Attainment in Customer Service will be taught face-to-face at TAFE NSW Quirindi’s Connected Learning Centre from October to cater to the demand for skilled employees.

“Students will learn hands-on skills such as how to operate a computer, process word documents, create and use email, upload documents, create newsletters, flyers and business letters, and use equipment such as scanners and printers.”

Research recently released by the Grattan Institute indicated that a vocational educational training qualification will lead to work in a relevant field.ii

“Both courses equip students with vital skills that will help them keep up with today’s fast-paced, technology-focused world,” Ms Grimes said.

“Many students are able to find work after completing the courses or are inspired to complete further study in a chosen field.”

TAFE NSW student, Sarah Austin, recently completed a TAFE NSW Statement of Attainment in Business Skills and is now completing a TAFE NSW Certificate III in Education Support.

“I’d had the same career since I left school 20 years ago; once I had children it gave me the courage to want to better myself and study again,” Ms Austin said.

“By studying the business skills short course at TAFE NSW Quirindi it gave me new skills in business operations and using computers and has also given me the confidence to keep studying.

“I’m now working full-time in learning support between Quirindi and Blandford Public Schools and I’m so passionate about what I do. I’m very happy and so are my family.”
