LOCAL PHYSICIST TURNS TO TAFE NSW TO TURBOCHARGE CAREER

A West Ryde local who made the unlikely switch from physics to operations management has credited TAFE NSW with helping her to propel her career into the stratosphere.

Nicole Reynolds, MPhil, was studying a PhD in Quantum Magnetism in Switzerland when an injury led her to return to Australia to focus on physical recovery and pursue a more flexible career path.

“I enrolled in the Certificate IV in Marketing and Communication through TAFE Digital as I was looking to retrain and try something new. The flexibility of studying online allowed me to continue my physical rehabilitation, while gaining in-demand skills,” Nicole said.

“I’ve since gained a job as Operations Manager at the Australian Institute of Physics (AIP), which is the perfect role for me as it combines my love for physics and problem-solving, with my recently acquired communications and marketing skills.

“The knowledge I’ve gained during the TAFE Digital course has been invaluable to my current role. From search engine optimisation to competitive analysis, I’ve been able to utilise my skills to attract new members to the AIP, which is incredibly rewarding.”

Honorary Secretary of the AIP, Dr Kirrily Rule said: “Nicole has completely turned around the operations of the AIP and offers a customer-focused approach to her role. I love that Nicole brings to her role as Operations Manager her innate love of physics, as well as her canny marketing skills and organisational abilities."

TAFE Digital teacher, Eddy Widjaja said the Certificate IV in Marketing and Communication provides students with the practical skills they need to succeed in the workplace.

“The course provides students, like Nicole, with valuable skills such as developing marketing strategies and analysing consumer behaviour. By studying online through TAFE Digital, students can access course materials and support from their teachers when, where and how it suits them,” Eddy said.

President of the AIP, Professor Sven Rogge said: “A dedicated Operations Officer makes a substantial difference to member engagement. I am delighted by the enthusiasm that Nicole brings to the role and the resulting improvement in communications with our member base.”
