With childcare expected to experience one of the largest education sector job surges in the next two years, one Glendenning local is taking advantage of the boom by securing a full-time position.

TAFE NSW student, Jessica Palena, completed a Diploma of Childcare and walked straight into a full-time job at Lalor Park Early Learning Centre. Jessica has now transitioned to a Bachelor of Early Childhood and Care at TAFE NSW Nirimba.

“It’s so great that I’m able to work in the industry as I learn and can apply the hands-on skills from my TAFE NSW course to my job,” Jessica said.

“It’s so rewarding to be able to help children learn and develop key skills they will use throughout their life.”

It’s an ideal time for Jessica to pursue a career in the Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC)sector as demand for childcare workers falls within the top ten forecasted growth sectors in the Sydney, Western Sydney, the Far West, and Orana regions of NSW to 2023 according to TAFE NSW research.

Statewide enrolments in the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and Care at TAFE NSW grew by 22 per cent over the last two years with 98 per cent of students employed immediately after completing their course.

TAFE NSW head teacher of Early Childhood Education and Care, Melinda Barsoum, said the four-year Bachelor degree equipped students like Jessica with hands-on skills and theoretical knowledge that employers look for.

“The Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and Care qualifies students to work Ms Barsoum said.

“National Children’s Week is a great reminder of the important role our early childhood educators play in young people’s lives and with an employment rate of 98 per cent, TAFE NSW is well equipped to get students working in the industry while they study.”
