MATTHEW DESIGNING HIS IDEAL CAREER

TAFE NSW Port Macquarie

A Port Macquarie local is encouraging others to consider a career in graphic design after a newly released report from the World Economic Forum on Jobs of Tomorrow reveals Graphic Design will be one of the most in-demand hard skills Australia-wide[i].

The timing is perfect for Matthew Kemp, who recently completed a Certificate III in Design Fundamentals at TAFE NSW Port Macquarie and has now secured employment at Macquarie Signs and Printing as a Junior Graphic Designer.

The business has seen a recent demand for website design updates and public health awareness promotional material which has meant people with job-ready skills are an asset during busy periods.

Mr Kemp has always had an interest in design and said when deciding what career to pursue, the option to study Graphic Design at TAFE NSW seemed like a no-brainer.

“I’ve always wanted to try my hand as a graphic designer so being able to study at TAFE NSW and now secure work in the industry has been so rewarding,” Mr Kemp said.

“I really enjoyed being able to learn from industry professionals at TAFE NSW. I have also been able to apply practical skills which I have learnt at TAFE NSW into the work I am doing for clients,” Mr Kemp said.

According to Forbes, the COVID-19 pandemic saw the fastest digital transformation of companies in history. Digital skills are at the forefront of everything and will continue to be going forward.[ii]

Macquarie Signs Group Director, Kara Bell said Matthew was an invaluable asset to the business.

“Matthew brings new and refreshing skills to the team which he has learnt at TAFE NSW. It is great to watch him continue to grow in the role.

“He has a strong commitment to further learning, a great work ethic, natural creativity and rapport with people.”
