Min Tao honoured at TAFE NSW Higher Education Graduation Ceremony

Sydney local, Ms Min Tao has joined over 200 degree graduates from across the state at the Higher Education Graduation Ceremony held at TAFE NSW Ultimo this week.

Min Tao graduated from a Bachelor of Fashion Design at TAFE NSW Ultimo in front of 10 dignitaries including TAFE NSW Managing Director Dr Caralee McLiesh, family and friends.

Min, originally from China, has always had an interest in fashion since she started studying it at high school in Canada.

“After I graduated from my final year, I relocated to Sydney to study a Bachelor of Fashion Design at the TAFE NSW Fashion Design Studio. TAFE NSW came highly recommended to me from a number of friends and family as it is the number one place in Australia to study if you want to become a fashion designer,” she said.

“When I relocated to Sydney, I had very basic sewing skills, so took a short course in sewing in China to ensure I was up to speed with the rest of the class. I found the learning facilities at the Fashion Design studio to be current with what industry uses today.

“During my time at Fashion Design Studio, I had the opportunity to intern at a number of Australian designer fashion houses including Manning Cartel, Ellery and Akira. This has opened up the door to a number of opportunity to help me choose my desired career path.

“My final collection that I designed while at the TAFE NSW Fashion Design Studio revolves around a symbolic representation of my concept. It is an experimental study of the human condition. The collection aims to explore the complex issues surrounding our humanity and mortality whilst drawing on contemporary film and literature,” Ms Tao concluded.

TAFE NSW Deputy Regional General Manager, Paul Williams, commended the graduates on their commitment and dedication to studying a degree at TAFE NSW, which has equipped them with the practical skills and work experience they need to pursue their chosen career.

“All TAFE NSW graduates have had first-hand contact with leading employers and understand their chosen industry through both practical and theoretic study. We congratulate them on their achievements and are confident they will have successful and satisfying careers,” Paul Williams said.

The ceremony also included graduates from the Bachelor of 3D Art and Animation, Bachelor of Design (Interior Design), Bachelor of IT (Network Security), Diploma of Information Technology, Associate Degree of Fashion Design and Bachelor of Property Valuation.
