Rama Haridas
Rama Haridas, a Westmead resident, who immigrated to Australia from India is happily working at Blackmores Limited, Eastern Creek with a TAFE NSW Certificate III in Business Administration to help him along the way.
“After researching the best career directions in Australia, I decided to enrol in a course that specialised in medical administration,” Mr Haridas said. “The demand for trained workers in this field has grown over the last few years and employment opportunities are expected to increase by over 50,000 new positions within the next five years, so I knew I was on the right track.”
Mr Haridas previously completed a Master of Computer Applications and Bachelor in Electronics with honours in India before embarking on a high-profile career. “I have more than 10 years’ progressive experience in aviation, IT and IT enabled fields,” he said. “My professional history includes positions such as senior systems analyst at ETS Technologies, product support engineer at Honeywell Technology Solutions Lab and Deputy Manager (flight operations) at Air India Ltd.”
Although he has held senior-level positions in the past, Mr Haridas said he is extremely grateful to have found work at Blackmores shortly after arriving in Australia. “When I was offered this job, I decided to enrol in this course to familiarise myself with Australian work practices in this sector,” he said. “It certainly has made a positive impact to my work output and I strongly recommend it to anyone wanting to enter this field.”
The flexibility of studying online was important to Mr Haridas. “This was a wonderful learning experience for me when I could set my own pace, do assignments at any time of the night and implement the theory into my daily work practices,” he said. “The TAFE Digital teachers and support staff offered me excellent guidance, were always willing to help and quickly responded to my queries.”
In his current role, Mr Haridas is responsible for maintaining effective, professional relationships with colleagues, other teams and stakeholders; assigning orders to specific staff; dealing with telephone calls and e-mail enquiries; and assisting with conferences, meetings and events.
Mr Haridas, who enjoys working as part of a dynamic team, said his customer communication skills vastly improved after he completed the course. “I am good at organising things and am keen to get involved in giving presentations, especially preparing the handouts,” he said.
Looking to the future, Mr Haridas said he would like to progress his career in medical administration, perhaps start his own business one day and have the opportunity to employ people in his community.
