Eleven enthusiastic Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service staff members have acquired vastly improved skills and new-found confidence in the workplace after successfully completing a TAFE NSW Statement of Attainment in Business - Workplace Documents course recently.

The students attended TAFE NSW Walgett one day a week for 22 weeks, learning important business and computer skills including business letter writing, powerpoint presentations, spreadsheets, word processing and much more.

Graduate Carl Mason said, “I enjoyed this course because it helped me understand computers more and showed me what other features I can use to make my work more neat and professional.”

Fellow graduate Suzanne Jenkins added, “Computers weren't a part of school when I was younger and this course has taught me things that will help me in my everyday life at work and home for the rest of my life.”

TAFE NSW Business teacher Mary Cobcroft delivered a specialised six units from the Certificate III in Business Administration training course to participants face-to-face, using innovative resources to support the students through their learning journey.

“The students thrived throughout this course, and have been so motivated by their achievements that they will study the remaining units so they can gain the full Certificate III in Business Administration qualification,” Ms Cobcroft said.

“The feedback from students was very positive and encouraging. It’s great to know that the skills we have provided them with will deliver a more efficient workplace.

“This specialised training for Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service staff is also a great example of how TAFE NSW can customise training to meet the individual needs of local businesses.”
