TAFE NSW helps Sanjib connect to his career

TAFE NSW Dubbo student, Sanjib Shrestha, is encoraging others to consider a career in Information Technology (IT) as newly released figures reveal a high demand for skilled IT workers in regional NSW.

According to research by TAFE NSW, the technology and business services industry is ranked the top category to employ the most people in regional NSW. With employment in this industry forecast to increase by 3.6% over the next three years, there’s no better time to be considering a career in technology and business services.

After moving to Australia from Nepal 11 years ago, Mr Shrestha, wanted to progress his skills in the IT industry to increase his employment prospects and make a new life for him and his family in Dubbo. He successfully completed a Certificate IV in Information Technology Networking and a Diploma of Information Technology Networking at TAFE NSW Dubbo and is now working full-time at 5G Networks Central West as a Support Engineer.

Mr Shrestha said he really enjoyed studying and developing his hands-on skills at TAFE NSW which led to obtaining his networking certification through CISCO Networking Academy.

“I have been able to learn a range of skills at TAFE NSW that I am using everyday in the workplace,” Mr Shrestha said.

5G Networks Central West Technical Team Leader, Greg Thornton, said Sanjib has progressed well since he commenced with the organisation two years ago.

“His busy role involves server and PC management and end to end PC management for customers within the Central West,” Mr Thornton said.

“Studying at TAFE NSW really gave Sanjib the baseline skills needed for his role with us and for a successful career in IT networking.”

TAFE NSW Information Technology Teacher, Paul Kellahan, commended Sanjib for being able to juggle study, work and his young family to complete two qualifications at TAFE NSW.

“Sanjib always kept up a pleasant attitude and his enthusiasm went a long way in his successful completion of the Diploma in IT Networking and receiving his certification,” Mr Kellahan said.

“He is a wonderful example of students coming to TAFE NSW to get the hands-on skills and experience to progress their careers in an expanding industry.”
