TAFE NSW JOB-SEEKING COURSE SUPPORTS COVID-19 CAREER CHANGERS

A TAFE NSW program is opening the door to a new career for hundreds of jobseekers who’ve decided to make a change during COVID-19.

The most recent Gartner Global Talent Monitor finds that 24 per cent of Australian employees are actively seeking other employment. For many in NSW, the state’s fully funded JobTrainer courses have been a career lifeline after years of uncertainty caused by COVID-19.

Vaucluse local Nicole Roma was frustrated and feeling stagnant in her career when she first searched out the courses available at TAFE NSW.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, I began to look at my career and how I could use my skills to make a career change,” Nicole said.

“When I realised I would be able to study fee-free through the NSW Government’s JobTrainer program, it was the push I needed to enroll and take positive steps towards a new career.”

Nicole completed a course in Vocational and Community Engagement in 2020 and went on to complete the Certificate I in Access to Work and Training at TAFE NSW Hornsby in 2021. Nicole has now successfully secured a Client Project Manager role at News Corp.

“The Certificate I in Access to Work and Training helped refresh my knowledge and gave me the newfound confidence I needed to revisit my resume and apply for roles I might not have thought I had the experience for previously.”

TAFE NSW Educational Pathways teacher Maria Josie Corcoles said the Certificate I in Access to Work and Training course helps job-seekers to gain the confidence and skills to get the job they want.

“Sometimes all you need is that little extra push and encouragement to take the leap and change your career,” Maria said.

“COVID-19 has been the catalyst for many career changes and the job-seeking Certificate I in Access to Work and Training sets students up with a solid foundation to pursue further education or gain employment,” Maria said.
